Where are the Neutral safety switch and backup light switch located on a 5th gen TH 350? steering column or closer to the tranny?

Bottom of the column.

Is there a Neutral safety switch on the colum shift 5th gens? I thought that the colum it's self was the switch...ya know a mechical setup. I just rewired mine with a painless set up (well, in the process) and for the life of me, I couldn't find the neutral SS, I called painless and they said that it was a mechanical switch in the column and that the column it's self prevented the starting if it was not in park or neutral.

Just from my experience. It's a 83 Elcamino with a th350, and column shift.

The one in my 76 and I think in the 80 I have is about 4 to 5" long mounted on the top of the steering colum tube at the base or close to the base. The shifter has a small lever that goes to it and there is two wires connected to it. I forget what the colors are. The switch is just a bit lower than the plug for the wiring harness and is held in place by a screw on either side.

That is the way I remember it anyway.
