It has been suggested that we try to find a vendor for personalized, NECOA License Plate Frames. Before undertaking a search and sales effort such as this, I need to get a feel for how many members would actually buy one or two of the frames. Please be honest in these accompanying Poll, as I will be using the Poll results to take the issue before the Executive Committee. Thanks very much, and be sure to vote in the poll. You can make as many choices as you need, but please do not chose more than necessary........................Ken :poke:

The Poll now has a question about purchase of a Front Plate -
the Front Plate is shown in Post # 11.............

You know what might be kinda cool ..... a front plate with the NECOA logo for states that only have a rear plate or for those of us that just want to display one. I'd definately be interested in a plate. Not big on the frame just because I like the way my vintage plate looks w/o one. But some plates do look better with a frame.

I would defintiely buy one as long as the cost is reasonable, like less than $25, and NECOA gets a cut of the proceeds.

Good pointers, but their prices are somewhat higher than I believe most of our members will pay. However, If we get to the point of actually buying and selling plates and/or frames, further research will be necessary.................Ken

I think a front plate just like the stickers would be good.

Somewhere in my stash of old Chrysler stuff, I have a Chrysler and a Plymouth Fury vinyl decal to stck onto a blank plate or plate shaped cutout.

Also have hidden somewhere an old Mopar windbreaker with The big Plymouth heart on the back.
Anyone remember that old Plymouth emblem???? Predominately used for the Fury.

Anyway----just tossing another option if it is an acceptable one.

Heres what an NECOA Plate could look like. However, we would have to purchase 50 or so to get a reasonable cost of around $15.00 to the members..................Ken

I just changed the poll to also ask about the Front Plate purchase

Honestly if it didn't have the copyright and the website address I'd be in for one. Otherwise it just looks tacky to me. I spread ECC by word of mouth, if someone sees the plate they'll ask what it is no need to put the web address there too.

This is what a Black license plate, with white lettering, would look with the NECOA front plate that was brought into the discussion. Looks pretty attractive to me, but let me know what you think about it. Is it something you would be interested in for less than $20.00 for the combination: The frame in hard black plastic with white lettering, the license plate custom printed aluminum in white, red, & black.

Just as a heads up, I've checked several places, and in the quantities that we can order, the lowest cost metal frame I've found is around $19.00 for a quality frame that should hold up. I'll keep looking, but the hard plastic may be our best choice. Meanwhile, tell me what you think................Ken

The plate is a good looking Item to put on the front of your regular car or EL Camino's even on the wall with my other collectable plates, I agree lose the copy and the www. The frame looks like it came from a car lot or add campaign, we spend many dollars to make or Elkies run right and nothing to make them look good that make no sense. However the alternative can be costly in chrome on metal or chrome on brass which is the best way to do a frame but is probably $50 by now, but they look good for a long time I have polished them bad before the weather and road got the frame. The sun in florida gets the plastic in a few years appearance wise and worse as as the years go.

This is just a fact

I don't think it is necessary to print "National El Camino Owners Association" twice in the same area, only a couple of inches apart from each other. Just my opinion.

Question, I've purchased a set of the ones from El Camino store, the ones they say ElCamino on top and the year 1985 on bottom, and they do not fit the license bucket on the 5th gens, if these are the same dimention, count me out, anyone else found this probelm on the 5th gens??

But if you're running an Antique or Classic tag on the rear, which is legal, then you can run whatever you want to on the front...............Ken

Looks good. Like someone else said though, lose the copyright.

Also just a heads up, the stickers that I bought when peeled off half of the 'M' in .com gets left behind so it says .con

I'm thinking more and more that the NECOA Plate should be considered in a separate discussion. A lot of the Frame vendors do not deal in the plates. I spending a lot of time getting bids from vendors who sell good quality Chrome - metal - frames, and trying to get the best price break for an order of 100 Frames. It's really amazing how those prices vary - from 10 to $60.00. I'll report back when I've received a few more bids.................Ken

After the 16 millionth inquiry, I may have found us a supplier for good, heavy Chrome plated Zinc Frames. The only drawback to these plates are that they're not engraved - the lettering is adhered to a vinyl material, and the entire Frame is guaranteed against material flaws or surface deterioration for one year. This would be a heavy Chrome Frame with Black lettering on a White vinyl material. Does any member have a problem with that? Please let me know, because if we do this, I'm going to have to rely on the numbers from the poll for ordering. There's 93 commitments as of now. I NEED TO KNOW IF THOSE NUMBERS ARE NOT GOOD!!!...................Ken

Sorry for jumping in here late- I was travelling. Ken, my only concern would be the durability of the vinyl lettering. I have had plate frames before that had the wording embossed into the frame and painted. Even those tended to have problems after a couple of years- the paint peeling away. I would think the vinyl sticker would not hold up to the hot Vegas summers.

While they might not be as flashy, the black plastic frames might be more durable from a heat point of view. Another thought on those would be to put the www. address at the top of the frame. It not only announces your membership, but might help to attract new members.

One of the Frames I'm getting a sample of is advertised as tested to last for at least 9 years. If we go with that vendor, I'll try to get that in writing. And, I'll try to get more information from the other vendors also. Thanks, Mike..........................Ken

I got to thinking about the vinyl stripes on the SS and MonteCarlo's of the day- those lasted 15-20 years, so I retract my durability statement. Should not be a problem if they are anywhere near that quality.

My Friends, I have 3 Sample Plate Frames coming from the 3 Vendors who met the basic conditions for supplying us with the Frames. Those conditions were:

1. High Quality Chrome over Zinc/Brass metal Base,
2. Black Lettering in a white vinyl Strip or on a Silver Frame material
3. NECOA could make $2.50 to $3.00 per sale, and
4. Frame delivered to you for $15.00 to $16.00 per plate.*

When I started this search, it looked like the only Frames that would meet those conditions would be the hard plastic frames with a Chrome finish applied. I now have bids of $8, $9, and $10.00 per plate plus shipping. I can't ship the $10.00 plate under the conditions set out above - but I want to see if the quality of that Frame far exceeds the others, as the vendor assures me it does. This is the current status of the Frame project. I'll let you know when the samples arrive - and provide photos.................Ken
* I'm not sure how much the shipping discount would be for multiple Frames - but there would be a discount.

There should be no charge for additional frames after the initial frame, shipping cost would cover it, same box and under the weight for the next step, at least up to four frames I would think. If there is an additional amount it is the shipping game and is pure profit for the vender.

That vendor who will ship to our members will be me, Jay, if we go through with this project. I will have make the bulk order of 100 frames - then mail them out to our members. There are no vendors out there who would take these orders at these prices and send them out. For example - one of the sample Frames, at my cost because I'm looking for a 100 piece order, was $16.00 plus almost $4.00 shipping. They do not give price breaks unless you're talking about a bulk order like I'm trying to negotiate. Individual prices for these Frames approach $24.00 for a 1-Frame order - plus shipping. These are supposed to be very good quality Frames. Sorry if I haven't explained the process well enough.................Ken

i think what jay is saying is that if you have a box big enough for 1 frame it would probably hold up to 3 or 4, the incremental cost of shipping the extra 2 or 3 would then be insignificant....i think that's what he's saying.

i'm sure we all understand that if you got an order from 1 person for 4 plates to 4 different addresses the cost would be higher than 4 pcs in 1 box to 1 address.

...or i could be completely wacko - which is always a reasonable assumption :smileyb:

I sure took a lot of words and space to try to convince the folks that I will not try to "Game the Shipping System". I don't think Jay was aware that I would be the vendor for the Frames if this project goes forward. Thanks Ed.......................Ken
