: 68 swap buckets to bench?

I am the proud new owner of a '68 SS clone so up the learning curve I go. This looks like a great information resource.

The elco currently has bucket seats although I have *no* idea if there are original. Did original bucket seats have head rests in 1968? These do not.

I am considering swapping the buckets for a bench. I know this might be a bit unusual, especially for a 4-spd manual setup like mine, but I could use the 3 butt seating instead of the 2 butt seating.

Am I completely crazy? Anybody in the Sacramento, CA. area interested in a swap (mine are in very good condition)?

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

I've completely taken apart my '68 so perhaps I can shed some light your seat questions.

I believe headrests were an option on both types of seats. My bench has them, for instance. I can look it up when I get home later if you want.

The buckets bolt to welded-in mounts on the floor pan. The bench bolts to nuts that are actually part of the floor pan. So all you have to do is remove the buckets' mounting brackets; the attachment points for the bench are already there. Another possibility is to see if the bench will fit over the bucket brackets and still sit on the original floor pan nuts, in which case no bracket removal may be needed.

Let me know if you need any more info or pictures.
