I am looking for a standard din radio conversion for my 84 ElCo radio face plate and backing plate. I will buy a different woodgrain one and cut it out, but I really don't want to botch a restoration part. I am all about not destroying. :D

I haven't seen a DIN radio face plate for a 5th Gen. I wouldn't be concerned about cutting up a restoration part as there are plenty of used face plates available on EBay as well as reproduction plates and even NOS. I cut up my old plate and fabricated a frame to hold the chassis and it worked out real well.

If you are crafty you can even make your own out of 1/4" plywood or something similar, then either fill, prime and paint, or smack some tweed on it, or even fiberglass it. Would be a simple first fiberglass project.

Give me a couple days to get my camera back from my buddy.(borrowed it like a month ago) Anywho I went the covering it in tweed route. It was pretty simple. just trace your old plate onto some wood. bust out the jigsaw and have at it. You coulf get real hyper and add in the little trim pieces and indentations. I am in the middle of my first fiberglass project too. I am fiberglassing the rear window molding(got ATE up by sun.) and I am putting Speakers in a semi-console under the radio. Show you some pics in a couple.

I've had my '84 Choo Choo since January but I didn't start driving it until 3 weeks ago. So far I have made a few changes for the better, I put a set of '89 Z28 5 spoke wheel I picked up from the yard for $50 and mounted a set of 215/65-15 BFG Traction T/A tires, a really nice setup (I do have the original wheels). But as soon as I deal with one problem I find another. That's what it is all about. I will have some pictures posted soon.

I was searching on ebay and found an 86-88 Monte Carlo face plate that looked very similar but with the double DIN hole. Has anyone used this plate??
