I have an '84 Choo Choo with a very bad clunking noise from the driver's side either when you turn a hard right or come down really hard from a bump in the road. A friend told me the idler arm is a common fix. It started after I replaced the front bearings which were very worn(I did replace the races as well) and put the '89 Z28 wheels with new rubber. I put it on the rack at work and did not notice any movement. Anyone else with a similar problem that has been fix?? Any ideas are apprieciated.

My '76 Sprint does the same clunking noise you're describing. Certain turns and hard corners/bumps. My problem is just old worn out ball joints. Check 'em out and let us know.

Ball Joints is the answer!! I got it up on the rack today at work. Mine are so worn and sloppy it ground down the balancing weights on the upper control arm. Are those the screw-in, pressed, or like honda all one piece? Just another weekend project..... :(

The upper ball joints have rivits that you cut off then the new ball joint has screws the replace them. The lower ones are pressed in and out. You can rent the tool from auto zone for like $117 then they refund your money when you return it. Ive replaced both upper and my passenger side lower. Still poping so one more to do!:D..... Do it as soon as possible my passenger lower broke and my front end hit the ground luckly i was in a parking lot doing like 10!Ball joints are VERY importat!

Yeah....I know! I tried telling my dad that and he just told me to put my old rims on it so it won't hit! Problem is I have to choose between driving to Mizzou ( Columbia, MO ) for a Mopar Show or fixing it since I am off tomorrow. I think I will stay home and fix it. BTW: These ball joints have been replaced because they have been bolted in and not rivited.
Thanks for the info!
