Hey guys,,, when i bought my elky,,, i had everything i needed for AC except for the lines that run out of the manifold!!!

Everything else looks to be hooked up Ok...

Do i need to run test on this system when i hook up the lines?

What kind of refrigerant do i put in this unit?

Thanks

Call your local AC shops to find one that will build new hoses for you. Since the system is open now, be sure to convert to 134a type freon. The original freon is now very difficult to find and is prohibitively expensive once you find a source.

WEll i have all the other line and hoses still on the car except for the lines that run out of the manifold. I found those at the boneyard this past weekend. I probably drive it to the AC shop when i get those on and ask is there anything else I need to run the system...

Thanks

Since the sytem has been open you will need at the least a new reciever/drier and I would recommend a complete flushing of the evaporator, condenser and compressor. If you don't have the R134A ports installed you will need these and don't forget the proper amount of oil.

I apologize for my ignorance but the lines running out of the manifold are for emmisions (smog pump).... The pump was disconnected before i bought it last year. I didn't take the time to worry about the A/C system last year because i bought the car in late september. I looked at an Elky today at a car show and realized that I don't need the smog setup on my system,,,

I came home and took a real close look at it, and realized that my system does work, however does need to be maintenanced and converted over to 134.

I learned an alot today, just by going to a car show and reading some old post about the vacuum switch etc.

I don't know anyone that was born with knowledge about vehicle mechanics. We all had to learn. Ask any question on this forum, there are a lot of people who learned a lot and are willing to share their knowledge. Good luck.

When its raining outside, and nothing good is on TV...that's the time to browse through our good friend "Search." So much information is there about so many topics! I've been reading about the a/c systems as I am in the process of re-installing the a/c that the previous owner (s) chopped out.
