I'm building a new center console for my '86. Does anyone have an idea where to purchase plastic, stainless steel or aluminum cupholder inserts? I am sure the custom upholstery shops use them. Any ideas?

Marine shops have ss inserts. Check interiors by shannon, his site has links to multple shops & suppliers.

I am wanting to do the same in my 86 with factory buckets and console. My first attempt was to raise the center console lid by adding a padded top to raise the level for my arm to rest on. This is only temporary and not sure how to modify the entire console. Sounds like you are wanting to remove the entire console from below the dash thru the buckets, right? I most recently saw a modifcation using the entire dash and console from a relative new Pontiac GTO. Possiby the best approach is to take measurements and go to some junk yards to find something to match. Let me know your progress and I'll do the same from my end. Good question and one that I am sure other owners with consoles will want. Nick

Thanks for the replies. I try the marine supply route first. This was a 60/40 interior originally, I changed to buckets some time ago. Trying out several ideas for the console. I'm leaning toward solid wood with some soft goods on the top. Also installing an aftermarket shifter so I can dump the column shift.
Thanks again for the ideas. I'll post again when I have some pics.
