hey guys, i finally got around to taking pics of all the various things that arent right on my camino, so hopefully this will work!! (sorry for a long post)

there it is, besides the defects ill show you next, its a great car! beautiful lines... 85 SS camino

so here we go!

this is the left corner of the bumper. it is bent so that the plastic corner filler doesnt fit right. the other side is perfect. I recently took off the bumper and reset it, i was surprised to find one of the absorbers had been impacted back all the way, or fully retracted. to make up for this, some one put a 1 inch or so thick steel block with holes matching the bolts that hold the bumper on, so i just took that off and pulled the absorber back out, seems to work fine and looks a hell of a lot better, should be allright if i dont get in a wreck...

ok this is showing the cars awfully faded paint. this is all over it, it badly needs a new paint job. Also you can see that the clear coat on the hood is peeling off. rain doesnt help that much... the paint is dinged and scratched all over

this further shows the effects of the crash that bent my bumper (I DIDNT CRASH IT heh). Sadly, all my wheels are in similar condition as that... but the tires are great

another of the damage

this shows the bad condition of my doors

and finally the faded paint or vinyl or whatever it is...

other stuff: small annoying dents in various places, and large dents on the rear left panel (where the gas nozzle would go, only on the other side) and one right in front of the back left wheel well.

i am really hoping to paint it a dark midnight blue, and get new rims for it, and eventually new seats/steering wheel.

well thats it! let me know what you guys think, and id like some advice. this is a great car and it has held up wonderfully for 19 years. Its nice driving a car that is as old as you heh..

see ya!

Were I to vote based on my personal financial condition, I go with leave it as is and drive it!
However, if you have the time and money, then I'd definitely go after more than paint - customize 'til your heart's content. Midnight blue would look nice and I still admire ghost graphics like flames and the like. Simple 5 spoke chrome wheels like the classic Cragar SS would set it off nicely. :)

The fact that you have a dark color, and are thinking about repainting it a dark color means the body has to be very straight. I'm sure you notice every tiny dent, wave, buckle, bump, and bug splatter now. Putting new paint over it will just amplify the flaws. Still, you gave a great starting point. It looks very clean, so if you're not in a position either time wise or financially to get it done, I'd just cruise it as is. Some Cragar SS wheels would look very good on it, as would some American Torq Thrusts.

You can always get it done in stages like I'm doing. A Goodmark Cowl-Induction hood is in my near future, and I'm still looking for a decent tailgate (the P.O. backed it into a pole with the tailgate down,) but other than that, I drive it daily.

My Elky looked a lot worse after it was hit by a van a few days after it was bought. Some drunk came around the corner of my street and hit the car it the passenger side of the tail gate. It was actually good though. The insurance money helped us to make it a nicer car than it ever was. So I say it's not as bad as it could be by a long shot and hotrod your money away  PS-The El Camino was buntted 30 feet but not to bad. The frame was still straight and all. The guy's van was totalled though! :P
