Ok, i just got my headers from summit, and im trying to install them on my 77... but they just wont fit. i was told that many times you have to jack the motor up off the mounts, and put the headers in from the bottom? Is this true? Has anyone put headers on a 77 4th gen before? They are dynomax cermic coated long tube style. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

witch side are you having problems on :-( ? drivers side remove the steering coloum as well as the plugs and drop in from the topon pass side remove the starter and plugs and put in from under the car this is the easiest way i know also if you can use some split lock bolts to hold them in no need to retorke

Headers always go in from the bottom. On my 77, I used hooker for a Chevelle. I had already changed to a smaller, faster starter, but I had no problems that I couldn't handle.

Good luck,

well i seem to be having problems on both sides. I was trying to get the headers in from the top tho. I already took off the starter, so i'll try from the bottom tomorrow morning. I have to just somhow get the car up 3-4 feet in front haha. Ill keep ya posted, thatnks for the tips 8)

alright, they are on! What a relief. You guys were right, only way to get them on is from the bottom, and they fit perfectly. Had to take off the starter, a/c compressor , powersteering bracket, oil dip stick, water temp. sending unit, and a few other small things, but it was well worth the work. The only thing that i couldnt put back was that "brake reaction" type bar on the drives side frame... The passenger one fits back fine, but the driver side one is going to need some modification. Theres a pic of it on another post. Dual exhaust going on in 3 days. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions for those thinking about doing a header-back exhaust on a 4th gen.
and thanks again for you help!
