Ben reading what I can about SS. Seems 83 and up are all Choo Choo with the plastic covering over the front bumper grill and all. Were there any 83 & up SS with regular front bumper and grill? Are the pre 83 SS all with the same front as the other Elkies? Whats different that makes the pre 83 a SS. If I understand only the cowl tag is the place where you can tell if it were a factory SS, not the vin. Am I right with above info. and if not tell me more.

I'm wanting to know because I know of a "supposedly" SS here from another state with only a bill of sale and I want to find out if it really is a SS and what type. In TX. I've got a bonded title several times. Its is trouble, but might be worth the money and trouble if the Elkie SS is something to be nice to have. It is definitely a 5th gen.

The CHOO CHOO customs have the monte style front end.

The regular SS package after 83 consisted of a lower front spoiler,gauges,fancy wheels,Black 1/4 window paint. And usually two tone paint with 3 color accent stripe. NO SS emblems or stickers on the outside!

The SS was only an apperance package in the 5th gen. And should have a Z15 code on the cowl tag.

OK. The gauges were not part of the Z15 package.
