as far as I know - and I am by no means an expert on Old Town - I think 9 AM means you can start 'showing' your car by parking within Old Town designated area for the weekend shows at that time. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE THERE AT 9AM. Last time I was there cars came in all day, but most came in the afternoon. I have almost a 3.5 hour drive from north of Jacksonville to get there, so I will probably not be there until around noon at the earliest....unless I decide to get a hotel room the night before. That will depend - for me - on what the wife wants to do around Orlando.

I think the 'cruise' part of this deal happens around 8:00...when the lights on Old Town come on, and we parade through the streets. So I think if everyone can get there by say, 4 PM, that would give us time to meet and greet and talk, etc. and still make the cruise, take pictures for ECC etc...

This is about all I know of it, and Peter will know more about all this, and correct any errors I made.

I'm gonna be there for sure, gonna ask for that day off next time i'm into work, something i can't miss. I have a few things to do to the el camino that I plan on having done before then, but nothing to special. I'll try to be there early, but don't know what time exactly

I got an unexpected blessing from my boss with a mid-year bonus check so I can get some of the parts I need to get the car ready to cruise!!!

Now mind you she's no show car, but she will now be able to run good enough for the 3 hour drive to Orlando/Kissimmee, and look well enough to look like a 'work in progress' :P

looking forward to it. Now I gotta order the shirt....

07-08-2004, 12:11 PM
time for the daily ?up-date 7/8

once again the schedule, we will start parking our elkys on the brick street inside old town@ 9am and register so we know whose there, and may win a prize(s) the motel aand red lobster are right next to old town easy walking disance. you don't have to arrive exactly at 9 just so you register before 2 pm at 2:30 we'll meet for lunch, and all give our input for what and how active region 6 should be..there's time for looking at other cars , swaping parts, if you have some bing'um alongand general bench racing the cruise starts at 8:30 pm we will lead off, with 1st,2nd and 3rd generation elkys 4th and 5th generation will stay were they are not cruising but__still on display......now I need :

a head count, who all is gonna be there? who wants t-shirts?
I need somebody to bring(donate) ice, I also need some large coolers Iwill bring the sodas and beer

85elcamino
07-08-2004, 03:17 PM
i'll be there , and as for shirts do we have a choice on which ones or what i want to try to get one but depends on how much money ill have after filling up for the trip

72ss454Florida
07-08-2004, 03:58 PM
I will be there. I will get a T-shirt XXL  and will bring a cooler as well. If someone had one of those pop-up tent coverings that would be cool so we could hang the banner, and if someone wants to 'watch' the cars, they can have some shade....

I can also grab some ice when I am there, plenty of places nearby we can all get some if we need more...

can we get customized T-shirts, i.e. with a picture of our car on it instead of the ones offered? If not, I can live with a 3rd gen one, and I would presume we can pick the 'style' we want, as long as its a NECOA...

...and Steve, or those without the $$$....dont worry dude if you cant do it...I dont think that's a problem...if at least one of us has one, you all can identify us...

r-59
07-09-2004, 09:19 AM

I'LL check , let us know if you are planning to attend..... so far....only 5 that I know of, and no interest in the motel ...lets go guys....CATCH THE FEVER

I know the gas is high priced for some of the 'younger' guys to make the trip, especially for the folks in the panhandle, but I would be willing to kick in $20 bucks in the hat to help them offset their gas price, if they will commit here online to show up.

Now thats $20 from me ONCE, and if anyone else wants to contribute a few bucks, it could be divided up if you need some help....

hey we have a month to go,over 150 hits on this thread but, not alot of sign ups- attendees: 85 el camino, punk rican, fastone 54, 72ss454 florida, steve 84 Ec, r-59. thats six, plus a large and medium t-shirt. mike made a nice gesture for gas, sooo lets go, catch the FEVER, you can still reserve a room if you need one.call:1-800-327-9126 mention el camino fiesta 2004 group no.99042. all you need to do : is bring yourself and your family(if you want to make a day of it)parts if you want to sell or swap I've got a 327 engine, plus hot cam etc.etc. we'll meet ,eat, and decide what we want to do, and go with this elcamino region, we all love our cars sooo let's show'm off and have some fun!!!

07-21-2004, 08:33 PM
Okay guys, lets start looking at a list of possible commitments to show that I have collected, as well as the 'definitely coming'....presented in no particular order

the following names and info on them is thus (some may not be known): ECC name (highlighted); Real first name; Car year/generation; Location

r-59; Peter, the Great :-P (Region 6 director); '59 Elky/1st Gen.

Steve84Ec; Steve; '84 Elky/5th Gen.

85elcamino; Jesse; '85 Elky/5th Gen.

PunkRican; Jonathan; '70 Elky/3rd Gen.

Fastone54; Bill; '67 Elky/2nd Gen.

72ss454Florida; Mike; '72 Elky/3rd Gen.

and these have committed to me via personal emails, and I hope they will read this and post here.... :P

Ed R., of Kissimmee; car type unknown

Keith P., '84 ChooChoo/5th Gen., and '71 Elky/3rd Gen. (dont know which one he will bring...Keith?)

John U., of Melbourne; '87 Elky/5th Gen.

So as of now, I count NINE pretty solid commitments. So far I see 1 first Gen, 1 second Gen, 2 (possibly 3) third Gen's and 5 fifth Gen's....not too bad....but it would be great to have one of the 'elusive' 4th Gen's show up (anyone out there??)....and to have at least 2 of each generation....

Lets go...

oh....and IMPORTANT NOTE!!!! John U. advised me (us) to be careful about the beer. They (Old Town officials) dont want to see a bunch of old drunks being loud and obnoxious there. Its a family place. And since they do sell beer on the premises, they probably want to sell some of theirs for the sponsors....you can still bring your own, just be low key about it.

okay I will update this list as I have commitments. Preferably here, but also via email. You guys add anyone you know of that I missed, and if I misspelled any names or gave bad info let me know and I will be happy to correct it.

Just letting you guys know, I got the 14th off of work, so i'm gonna be there for sure. I have some front springs I really need to install buy then. Because recently I bought wheels and tires, and with how low my front sits, the front tires rub. And my springs now are completely shot, its not a real fun ride, especially on the high way. Hopefully this weekend or next I'll have it all ready to go though. If not, i'll just have a not so fun ride to old town, lol.

I know what you mean Steve about a not so fun ride....I added a new Holley Street Avenger carb last week and got a few chrome goodies to add on, then today/this weekend I was going to take off the doors to replace hinges and weatherstripping and ran into all kinds of crap! I ended up almost gutting my interior - taking up the crappy carpet, removing the busted bench seat, ripping out the defunct stereo someone put in.....I am hunting down a short - I guess - thats keeping the battery drained, and of course the interior work was NOT on the schedule....

....tomorrow, then only one weekend to go 8O 8O 8O .....its gonna be close, and I might have to forget about painting the engine compartment...at this point just getting the elky there street legal will be a milestone yikes!!

I dont know where you work or what you do, but if they cant come for the whole day, maybe they can zip on over in the evening before the 'cruise' part, and still see the cars....let them know the times posted on this forum, and they can also check the Old Town home page (just do a google search) and see if they can still squeeze it in later in the day, since you guys are fairly close, unlike me....

Hey Jonathan, thanks for checkin on that, man! We appreciate it. Right now, I think everything is good to go (except for my Elky  ) and thats comin along too!

Dont worry about the folks, I am bringin the wife. My kids wont be coming, but they are older than you anyway. Hey, the parents can always drop you off and leave you there for a while - so you dont feel like a moron :P .

heck, if you have your permit, any licensed driver 21 or older can ride with you so maybe you can find an older friend or somethin who might also enjoy the cars...

anyway, I was just checkin in....I've got to get back to the garage....LOTS to do....gotta find a way to temporarily fix my broken bench seat (have neither time nor money right now to do it properly).....so off I go.

I am lookin forward to it guys. We have about 10 committed to show - with fastone54 not sure now - and emails I get offline seem to indicate we could have a few more show up, so it would be cool if we get 15 or 20!!

update on me....

I will be there God willing, but I have had a small setback physically...I have overstressed myself due to some personal problems and work, as well as trying to get my Elky ready enough to make the trip, and my blood pressure shot up, my pulse was high, and I had to stop work and everything to be careful and not have a stroke or something!!! 8O 8O

I went to the doctor today and he okayed me to rest and rehab and ordered the usual blood tests etc, but for now, I am okay enough if I pace myself.....

as for the car, I lost a whole weekend of elky work, so I am behind, and I am going to have to just let the car be sort of ugly when it makes the trip
because I just dont have time....unless one of you young bucks wants to come up here between now and Friday and help me :P

The wife and I are planning on leaving about 7:30 to 8 AM Sat morning and that will put us in Old Town around 11:00 AM at the latest, depending on traffic or rain etc.....

by the way, some of you local guys keep and eye on the weather forecasts for the weekend and let me (us) know what it looks like for Saturday and Sunday (for me).

Thanks.

72ss454Florida
08-09-2004, 04:46 PM
by the way, its been awhile since the old Elky has made this long of a trip, and while I think it will make it, I would like to exchange a cell number with one of you, in case I run into trouble near Daytona/Orlando. I have AAA but I would still like to call you if I do have any problems....

just email me and I will do likewise with mine.

Thanks.

p.s. I"m bringing one friend that into cars

72ss454Florida
08-10-2004, 05:27 AM
I had another commitment from Joe, aka Sarasota Speeder. New to NECOA.... he and his wife will be bringing his 71 Elky, so the gathering is looking good. I think if the weather holds and some more of 'silent' people show up (those who havent commented directly here, but know of the event or have given me some email communication), then we could well have over 15 cars!!

Its going to be neat.

Dont forget your lawn chairs, and a hat to keep the sun off....sun block, etc. Dont forget what I told you earlier in this thread about the beer. Re-read the posts if you need until you find it, just so everyone understands....we want Old Town offiicals to like our effort on our first time, not get pissed off at us.

Also, I found out on the Old Town website http://www.old-town.com/carshows.htm, that we are listed on the front page for August 14 as feature group, and for those in the local area, it shows that in September, on the 11th, the show 'My Classic Car' with Dennis Gage (the handlebar moustache dude) will be at Old Town filming for the show.....so some of you with real sweet rides need to get back over there on the 11th and represent NECOA...

Steve84Ec
08-10-2004, 05:59 PM
That is cool that they have us on there site. I think I might have to make another trip out there for classic car show in sept. Now just to let you all know, i probably will be there in the morning, but sometime after 9. But i'm coming for sure. Replaced my front springs(which i will never do again) today and put on some new tires and wheels. Best the car has ever looked i would say. I may have another few surprises by then, got a couple days off, plan on going to the upullit tomorrow.

bad news guys, looks like we might be dealing with a tropical storm saturday, check the weather report.

72ss454Florida
08-11-2004, 08:19 AM
Yeah, Steve, I have been watching intently for those storms. Bonnie looks like it could give us here in Jacksonville some rain tomorrow, but it will be well to the north....

but Charley is another story. Models have it going across the state right over Orlando, or up the west coast and coming more toward Jacksonville, and our local weather guy is one of the best hurricane forecasters in the state, and he is not liking what Charley is looking like. He said it could be a Category 3 or more when it hits Florida.....

Reckon we wont really know better until Friday noon....

And me with a leak around my windshield and all... :(

:P

72ss454Florida
08-11-2004, 08:54 AM
Here's a link from The Weather Channel website, as of this posting at 10:45 AM Wednesday, showing the projected path of Charley....

http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm3/projectedpath_large.html

right up the middle of the state! The good news is IF this model holds true, the Storm will pass Orlando and most of the state Friday, and provided there's no flooding or damage, its possible we could have a nice day after all on Saturday....

I will have to watch this more closely than the rest of you, since I am north of you all....I could be in for some real nasty weather even as you all are clearing up some...and dont get me wrong, as much as I love my El Camino - it is NOT the car I want to be driving in tropical storm rain conditions because its tires, muscle and wipers are not nearly what my new cars are like....

...hopefully, though, the worst case will be that I have to leave a little later in the day Saturday and get down there about 3:00 or so....

we'll see...

85elcamino
08-12-2004, 07:33 AM
looks like its gunna hit friday and be way up state by saturday so im gunna be there just dont know how clean the elky will be  anybody kno if we can get an oldtown car wash going with some girls i mean we are the featured group and all  :P

08-12-2004, 08:43 AM
lol, that idea sounds good. I'm still going, first time i have taken a day off of work, i'm gonna do what i planned on doing. But I would still like to know who all else is going? Weather doesn't scare me much, but if its just gonna be to cars, it might not be worth the trip, lol. Hopefully you all are still going though

72ss454Florida
08-12-2004, 11:00 AM
In one way, I am the most affected since I live farthest north, and by the time the storm passes me, you all will have 10 or more hours of clear or clearing skies, while I have to wait enough for me to go.

I do think that if the models hold, the storm eye will pass very close to my house in Callahan but the storm is not supposed to be as strong because it went across the state....they are 'currently' estimating maybe 50 MPH winds sustained with gusts to 75 for those of us right in the eye path. Thats not too bad. My house is new brick 1 year old, so the codes are real up to date, so no problem there....just need things not to be too flooded or highways crowded on Sat and I can leave as late as noon and still make it by about 3:00, so I am still planning on coming...

but I have a problem. Old Town doesnt allow vehicles that leak a lot ...I have a tranny leak, a fairly good one when the car sits a few days, though I think it would not be TOO bad for a few hours of the show/cruise. I dont have time to get it fixed, as I have been working on getting it running and all and I am out of time.

I think I can rig a piece of foam or something to slide under the car to catch any drips, but do any of you have any other ideas?? In the garage I use kitty litter and it works good to soak up stuff as it drips, but thats impractical here....

still planning on going, and only late Friday will I be able to tell you for sure, if I still have power to get on the internet.

we'll know in a couple hours...

r-59 (Peter O'Rourke) is the Region 6 director, and he will decide around 2PM today....so stay tuned or check back in about that time, as we can see what Charlie will be doing....

All of the Orlando theme parks are closing early today, but tomorrow it will all be gone, and barring massive damage or flooding, I cant imagine the theme parks or Old Town closing down, so I dont think that will be a problem....

for me now, I am worried about IMMENSE traffic jams between Jacksonville and Orlando tomorrow from people returning home....I better bring some reading material for the wife if we are stuck in major traffic... 8O

Thanks for the updates on the reschedulded El Camino Fiesta. I'm looking forward to making the trek from Melbourne in my '66 Elky. Let me know if there's anything I can help coordinate from here. I can probably get three or four local Elky owners to join us at Old Town on Sept. 18.

oh boy, the up-date from hurricane alley.....maybe...maybe not!!!
thats the word from kissimmee, if they get hit for the 3rd time it"s all oover. we actually have the same situation as before with charlie Ivan will drop rain and wind, so many may have to see to their homes and family rather than the fiesta.I called yesterday and they said it was all ok but kissimmee has had power outage.... maybe punkrican can let us know how things are in that area.post your thoughts..should we go ahead ?? or wait untill turkey run and meet then.
post a message over the week-end and I'll up-date on monday..... this up-date is posted on friday sept.10

72ss454Florida
09-10-2004, 10:52 AM
Peter, you may have the right idea about waiting for the Turkey Run....its getting as if 'someone' is telling us to skip Kissimmee.....

I am scheduled to drive down there on the 18th with a bunch of Mustang'ers from the Jacksonville Mustang Club that plan on going to the show....but that all may be in jeopardy. IF - and thats always the operative word with hurricanes - IF, Ivan does as the projections are showing now, he will blow either up the west coast or over the central part of the state Tuesday and Wednesday, at least as a Cat 1 hurricane minimum....that will make it impossible to meet in Kissimmee the following saturday...

PunkRican
09-10-2004, 01:44 PM
i dont foresee the 18th to be a problem really, maybe for those of you driving down it could be hard to find gas and such, but old town should be ok by then. Ivan should be passing, if they weather guys are correct, by monday or tuesday sometime. I guess if you guys wanted i could check the area out on friday or somethin and report the condiditon. as far as i know im pretty sure nothing has really happened to it with the last two but Ivan could change that and it could not, so I guess we'll just wait and see but i don't think it should really eb that big of a problem come saturday.

Jason, I am planning on traveling down with the Jacksonville Mustang Club group that is also going to Old Town. I have a fellow employee who is a member there, and we are invited to ride with them. I thought it would be good to help show them what REAL muscle cars are :P

Anyway, we are planning to leave from the Avenues Mall, but at this time, as I guess there is still a slight uncertainty with Ivan, I have no information on time, but I will get it. Just keep in touch with me via email and/or I will post it here when I get the info.

And anyone else from Jacksonville area can join us.

BREAKING - BAD - NEWS!!

I will not be bringing the Elky tomorrow. It has developed a serious problem with the motor, and I am not sure what it is. I am posting a question in the Engine Topics forum to get some help, but that will not be in time to drive it.

The wife and I will still come to the show so we can meet you, and everything, but no Elky this trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know what time we will be there, but I will find you all....

and Jonathan, I dont think you have a lot to worry about if you want to lock up your car and such, but just leave me the keys and I will.....
