If you want to have a get together I know of at least 4 69's within 5 miles of me in Concord. None are shownShinw quality but they ARE Elco people.

So any luck in finding more cars for the show? I am here in Sonoma County and there are a few here that maybe I can get to go? I think it would be a BLAST!!!!

I know there's alot more EC owners out there than are visible, but I'm thinking that most may be intimated by the "Car Show" label. Maybe we should try to get a "gathering" of our species together.
Ya know, a causal thing where there are no judging or displays or banners.
Let's face it, if we were ready for Barrett-Jackson, we wouldn't be hanging 'round the likes an ol' dog like me!

I love drivng and working on my Sharp71 but she's a driver with no chance of ever being "Show" quality. I just like the vehicle and I'd love the chance to me others like me.

Maybe start small.. like a drive up burger joint. This way you can always say you "just happened to drive by"

Livermore has a place called John's Burgers were they have Hod Rod Drive Up on Friday. I think it's once a month.
I "just happened to be dring by" and stopped in for a shake with my boy.
There was one ol' beater there when I arrived but by the time I was leaving there were probably 8-10 hod rods of various vintage. All were just hanging around BSing. I thought it was very cool.

What are your thoughts?

Hey there, I'm in san jose and would love to get together even if just for a cruise night.

I know bonnie is up in concord, and Marv is in seaside, I have got a buddy with an 83 I believe in sunnyvale that would likely attend.

Only nights not good for me are Tuesday and Sunday nights, but most any other night or weekend durning the day if it is within an 1.5 of San Francisco i could attend.

A "SHOW" I would go to but not enter, but just a cruise night to show off the progress i am making (most of which only I seem to noitce sadly) would be great. We could call have an el camino support night. We can tell all our horror stories, projects gone ary and so on.

I had a chance to meet Marv about a month ago, and what I figured would be me stopping by for an hour at most turned into a 4 hour "elky story" Day.

Maybe we put together a barbaque at a local park or something, or find a parking lot and bring out our hibachis :)

Just some thoughts. Even if it were just 4 or 5 of us going i would try to show.

Very few of my other buddies understand the "We do it out of love for our cars" like you all seem to.

Wayne

oops, just read back through the thread and saw the bottom half of your note which I missed the first time.

A friday night cruise night would do for me in livermore, my sister lives up there and have been meaning to get up there to see her (and more importantly talk to her father inlaw about building a custom wood bed for my elky :) )

Sorry Guys and Gals: Count me out for a Elky outing anytime soon.

With the high price of Gas these days, I may jsut make my Elky a weekender only, not a daily driver.

Sharp 71 I know there are lots of Daileys out there. Just have to get the word out. Maybe a get together is exactly what it should be called. Has anything like this ever been attempted before in this region? I am from the Fremont / Union City area and last weekend there was a show / get together in Fremont at the school for the deaf that displayed cars of all different stages. I am down to volunteer some of my spare time to explore setting something up. :D

Hey Danny, I'm still floating around Livermore albeit working a whole bunch more (switched from cars to heavy trucks and tractors). I am free most nights after 6:00 or so. A gathering at a burger joint would be cool, doesn't even have to be Livermore (although John's does have some kickin' burgers and shakes).

Dennis! Good to hear from ya.
Yeah, for those who have never been to Livermore's own John's Burgers... these are the ol' school gease bombs we used to eat before the chorestorol madness.

Maybe Dennis knows more than I about the Hod Rod Fridays at Johns.
Or I can look into to it more.

So OK... I'll make the first nomimation for the location for the unofficial, no show, no prizes, no judges "Region 18 Get Together"

My nomination is for Livermore in late October or early November.

Any comments or other nominations?

C'mon guys. Just seeing Dennis' EC project is worth the trip, not to mention John's Burgers.

Note to self... the spell checker is great!

I'm there.

If someone can get me the address of johns burgers, I'm gonna do up a handfull of fliers, I see ALOT of elkies around here, at least 2 or 3 a day, and not the same ones.

Figure If I paper bomb them, maybe more will come and end up on here as well.

the 28th works great. I get off at 6 in Mountain view, and will head up after that. I'll try and get off a little early. Now I've got to start making progress on my interior, I would really love to have it in up there so you guys can check it out.

I'll try and make arrangements with my sister to stay up there that night, she lives off vasco road so hopefully i can stay as long as I want and maybe even get together on saturday with some of ya all that are local if we find things to go over.

I'd also suggest, that if any of us have spare parts we want to unload, that we load them up in the back of our elkies and do a bit of a swap meet there as well.

So stoked this is coming together.

John's Char-Burger

2617 Old 1st St

Livermore, CA 94550

Due to the extensive amount of road construction going in downtown Livermore I'll provide the "long way" directions.

From Dublin/San Jose/Concord:
East 580 to 1st street, take the 1st street exit and turn R at the light, stay on 1st street until you go over the railroad over pass (approximately 2 miles, it's the only over pass you will hit), upon dissent of the pass you will go through a stop light, just past the stop light on your right is the parking lot for Johns Char-burger.

From Tracy/Stockton:
West on 580 until 1st street, take 1st street exit and stay to the left, follow the off ramp back over the freeway and turn R at the stop light (it's the only way you can turn), stay on 1st street until you go over the railroad over pass (approximately 2 miles, it's the only over pass you will hit), upon dissent of the pass you will go through a stop light, just past the stop light on your right is the parking lot for Johns Char-burger.

There is a bicycle shop, an oil changers and a car wash all within a block so parking shouldn't be a problem. The actual parking lot for John's should hold about 40 cars or so. I am going to go in this week and say hello/introduce myself and give them a heads up so there won't be any suprises.

1971 Elky. Like others, not a show vehicle (and I have no intent to ever make it that way) but it is a relative goer (mini blown 468).

If turn out is as good as it looks on here, we should have quite the nice cruise in. Everytime one of the other regions has posted about a get together, I don't think I've seen this much interest.

Loking forward to meeting all of you.

If any of you from the san jose, mountain view, los gatos region want to meet on our side of the hill, we can commune up there together, that would be cool.

Besides some of our elkies may need some lovin on the way up and who better to help than another elky if we have trouble.

What about meeting at the 680 / 880 interchange on mission blvd to cruise over the hill. its a little of a back track for you, but from sj and losgatos its pretty much enroute.

There is a burger king on the parking lot to the right as you are headed toward 680 from the 880 side. Try and meet there between 6 and 6:30?

If you guys want give me a call at 650-279-4122 and we can try and coordinate this further.

I'm gonna try and get Marv on the phone and get him to commit bringing his elky up from seaside. I'll talk to my buddy gary tommorrow who has an 83 and try and work on some fliers today. If i put something together I'll try and post it up here so you all can distribute it further on your ends.

I'm gonna try and talk my other buddy in to bringing up one of his rides, granted he's a mopar guy, but he has a beautifull cuda and a challenger. Another friend (insert beautiful hot chick) has a 68 coronet (I think that is what it is called) to bring it up as well.

Anyone have a good graphic to use for johns burgers.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this..

So I printed up about 20 of those flyers figuring I knew a couple locals already who would be interested. Also figured, I usually see a few elkies a day on the road and maybe I could get one to one if it was convenient,
Sunday went for a cruise tot he store for some smokes, and saw a nic 86, threw one on the car.

Decided rather than take my normal route back, I'd hit a couple of the side streets. Found 3 more elkies within a mile of my house, having fun with it widened my search another mile or so,...

Jist of it is, I ran out of flyers and made it home about 3 hours later, after yapping with fellow elky owners, and hopefully got some other locals to cruise up there, and definetly re-invigorated them about their elkies.

I found a cherried out early 70's a few beaters, a few daily drivers, met about 7 cool elky owners.

A little foot work around your local neighborhood may do your heart and soul good as well as increase our turn out. Didn't even feel like i was working, I was on my own local cruise around :)

I'm getting anxious folks :)

Replaced my front brake pads last night, pulled out my temporary spring expanders I installed to minimize initial rubbing. Their removal actually improved my rubbing such that now, only on the passenger side i get a little rub in steep driveways, picked up some carpet paint today, going to try and do a thourough cleaning of my existing carpet today, leave it out in the sun to dry tommorrow while I'm working on my seat brackets and then hopefully die and put back in on sunday.

Ulitmately going to replace it, but for now, just gotta paint it to match :)

Lots of other little things to do this week, but have high hopes of completion :)

scootermk: If you want you are welcome to ride up with me, I took the day off knowing I will be pushing the last minute to get all my stuff done on the elky, so i will head up on friday around 6, but I probably won't be leaving livermore until saturday sometime late morning early afternoon, crashing at my sisters, which I'm sure you would be welcome on the couch, (for sure the bed of my elky :)

Anyhow, hope you all are able to make it, I'm looking forward to meeting you all, I have yet to meet a person who likes elkies that I didnt like :)

I've been swamped and haven't been able to do any spit or polish to her but I love her even without a bath.
I should be at John's Burgers around 6:30-7ish. Sounds like we could pack the joint.
For those coming in on 84, you should take Isabel to Stanley and all the way up to First St. The insider move is to turn left off of Stanley just before you get to First. You turn left into a sort of cul-de-sac just after the 3-story Muni parking lot. Bear right thru the gun shop's parking lot and John's will be across the street.
For those who indulge, stop by Babe's Place (saloon) and tell her "White Boy" (long story) sent you.

I'm going to be at Pleasanton Faitgrounds this weekend at the Spring get together. Thats about as good as it gets for the El Caminos to all park togther and enjoy a beverage or two. I'm staying at the fair grounds in the RV park, just look for black truck, trailer and my Black 59 8). I do bring my own beer to lower the price of that $7.00 beer.

See Ya There.

Happy New Year to all from the El Caminos Club of Bakersfield. Man, we rocked in the new year wih LA Grange Tribute to ZZ Top band. These guys were awesome! Lacy Marie, the dancer, was hot that night and Jerimiah Roiko band opened the night with some serious jams. This how it is done - BIG. We will post pictures & video as soon as they can be compiled and loaded up on http://www.eelcaminosclub.com (http://www.eelcaminosclub.com/). This was just a taste of the entertainment we have planned at the 50thh Anniversary Celebration, Oct 31-Nov 1, 2009 so get onboard and register for the show. RRL

I see this is an old thread but perhaps someone will pick up the ball and arrange a show in Northern California or arrange for a group to attend the Canby Oregon show on July 19

If you guys arrange a NorCal show keep me informed of the plans so they can be included in the Carlisle show book and online.

Well I don't have a show car ... its a road worthy 85 and gets 22 mph. Good enough to drive from Stockton to Fremont and back as a daily commuter ... But it's a work in progress.

I wouldn't mind showing up ... but I would still rather ride on 2 wheels than in my 4 wheeled cage. LOL

Every Thursday evening on El Camino Real close to Lawrence in San Jose, CA. There is a large car get together by the Boston Market, I've had my Camino there a few times there is over 100 cars there sometimes, or why not meet at the Pleasanton Car show and all park together. The cheapest way to get in pleasanton is to show your car, it dosn't have to be show quality and you get a great parking spot. I show my El Camino there 2 to 3 times a year and I'm yet to have anyone come up to me and ask if I belong to ECCO and I have the calendar usually on the dash.

Its in between Fairfield, and Vacaville on I-80, the cherry glen exit I believe. We just go in the park, go around the lake all the way to the right, and there is a large parking lot next to a frisbee golf course. Then we can chat and head down the back roads to Winters by Lake Berryessa.

Auburn, CA has a cruise night every 2nd friday of the month. i'm not to sure how many people are from around the 530 or 916 area code but i figure it's a good place to meet other Elco owners. The next one is July 9th if your around the area it would be cool to come. PM and ill get you some more details if you want.
