It seems nobody has much luck with headers for thier Elky.(5th gen anyway)I would like to replace my stock exhaust manifolds with Edelbrock smog legal headers. My Elky is an '82 with a 305 by the way.The Edelbrock headers have the air tubes on them and i would like to keep all the smog stuff intact so as not have any emissions regulation problems in the future.Has anyone used these headers? If so did you have any problems installing or hooking them to your stock converter? Also.i'm looking at using either Monte Carlo SS or Grand National muffler and tailpipes.Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.Thank You.

I am real pleased with my Dynamax 85118s but they do not have air tubes.

Mine are painted. The 86118s would be coated. I got them from a local speed shop. They were the easiest headers in ever installed. I had to make a small dent in the tube that passed to close to my passenger upper control arm, other than that they sliped in easy from the top & bolted right up.

I installed a set of hooker headers HOK-2451, and they fit perfect! No bending or hammering. Hooker also has a HOK-2150 which has the option to have the air tube fittings installed already just by adding a 0 in front of the part number. Both are 1-5/8x30 with 3 inch collectors.

Also installed the jegster transmission cross member which has a second hump to allow the left pipe to go straight back with out any crazy bends. Not running a cat as we don't have an emissions program.

Hello Wheezer,
I've got an '82 Caballero w/305 and I've had those Edelbrooks on it for almost 10 years now. I've been extremely happy with them too, never any problems getting smogged, the fit is "tight" on passenger side but does fit - it's just troublesome getting at the back bolts and then whenever changeing plugs -- makes for a bit of grumpy fun.
They come with all the needed pieces, clamps, etc., in the box, but I did take it to a muffler shop and had everything welded up cause I could never get it to not seep at the clamped sections.
I've never had headers on a rig before, so my question is how long are they expected to last??? Are they like regular manifolds and will last forever?? Or does one need to replace them every decade or so??
