Just wondered if any of you guys have this problem.

Everytime I wash the engine bay on my 82 Elky, if the wiper motor gets just a little wet, the wipers and washers start working as soon as the key is turned on even with the wiper switch in the off position. They will not shut off and the only thing I can do to stop them is unplug the wires running to them.

After about two days of drying out they work fine again. Its kind of annoying when pulling out of a car wash on a sunny day after washing your engine bay and your wipers and washers are working all the way home.

Anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it short of covering up the wiper motor ? Thanks!

P.S. My friend has an 89 Chevy pickup that does the same thing, so he wants to know too.

Sounds like you're getting the contacts wet. Remove the plastic cover on the motor and make sure the rubber seal is still in place. If not, reseal it with silicone.
