Hi all,

I noticed on the main page that Original Parts Group, inc. supported El Camino Central.com and gave its members a 10% discount from their mail order catalog. I called them up to place a $120 order for my 70 Elky SS 396 and they denied me the discount saying they have never heard of the club or even the web forum.

Just a heads up to all of you other people that order from these people. I told them that I would rather spend a couple dollars more at a different place that supported our group than get stuff from them. Needless to say, the $120 went to a nicer and friendlier supplier.

Also, for those of you who havent checked out Ground Up restorations. I believe their web site is www.ss396.com Their catalog is nicely described with plenty of COLOR photos of items.

Aw poopoo...I'll check on it!

Part of the problem may have been that they wanted a member list and I was waiting to get the complete merged list before sending it out to them.

The list goes out tomorrow to all the suppliers that have agreed to give us discounts as a group...

once i tried to order the left rear wheelwell trim piece, which was the only trim piece i had to buy aftermarket. when i told the guy thats what i needed he said they didn't have it, and i told him it was listed in the catalog, then he started getting impatient pretty fast.

That's poor. Peter, I'm not sure who you were dealing with when you set up the ECC discount, but I was dealing with Ron Palermino at OPG when I set up the NECOA discount in June or July of 2002. I have received the 10% discount through phone orders a couple of times since then. One time I had to mention Ron Palermino's name as the one who set up the NECOA discount with the OPG General Manager's okay. I had also sent an NECOA member number/name Acrobat listing, once a quarter, to all NECOA sponsors.

Hi Dan,

Just to let you know when I called OPG, they said they have never heard of either the NECOA or El Camino Central.com nor have they received any of the membership lists with membership numbers. I asked to talk to a manager (name I forgot) and he told me the same thing that he has never heard of any such group or club and there are no clubs for el caminos registered with them.

Like other people have said, they were very short and rude with me and personally, if I had the choice of where to go, it would not be with them. Only in a last resort that no one else had the part available, I MIGHT give my money to them.

Just dont want anyone else to get shafted by these people. I guess OPG forgets where they get their income and business from! ! ! !

I made a small purchase myself last month and gave them my NECOA member number. No discount was given on my invoice.

Peter,
Just for the heck of it, I'm gonna' forward you the e-mail where the OPG deal was done for the NECOA. I've sent them at least three updated member lists with NECOA member number and member name.

Still awaiting a reply from my contact. But just another quick comment on OPG, we all know who the parent company is right? Well If you guessed Classic Ind.'s you guessed right...what's that tell you. Now, I wont' slam any vendor I've never dealt with personally, everyone has had good and bad experiences with different suppliers.

I guess what I trying to say is...We're new, growing by leaps and bounds and "those" folks will learn who we are as a group very quickly...be assured...If nothing else, I'll keep letting them know.

And yet on another note: If you have ANY problem with ANY vendor that has agreed to offer us as a group any type of price break and they have no clue what you're talking about...I would like to hear about it immediately...so that I may resolve the issue. Don't get mad, don't get pissy on the phone...if need be you can call me and vent.

I really wasnt that pissy with them on the phone, its just the fact that I have ordered stuff with them before for my Buick GS conv. and since I also belong to the Buick Gran Sport Club of America, I know they give discounts to clubs. I have bought many of items from OPG in order to have to pay shipping back to them for wrong shipped items and items that were not even close to what I was replacing. Other parts places have given me a discount even if they have not had an updated list by using a "dummy code" to give a 10% discount. Granted, it would have only saved me $12 on my $120.

Its just that it seems like no body cares about the customer anymore and that all that everyone is concerned about is making the good ol greenbacks. Forget the old saying "The customer is always right". Whatever happened to having a happy customer who is a repeat customer who tells everyone who to go to for a good experience and to get GOOD, QUALITY parts.

WELL I HAVE NEVER ASKED FOR A DISCOUNT AS DIDN`T REMEMBER IT WAS PART OF BEING A MEMBER. BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE PROBLEM WHEN PLACING ORDERS BY PHONE WITH THEM. MAYBE BECAUSE I`M A GIRL AND THEY THINK THEY ARE HELPING A CLUELESS FEMALE AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE SO HELPFUL. SO I JUST PLAY ALONG. I HAVE NEVER PAID FOR ITEMS THAT WERE SHIPPED WRONG AND IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE. I JUST PLACED PART OF MY $2600 ORDER AS SOME OF THE STUFF IS BACK ORDERED. SO I HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS COMPANY SO FAR. WE`LL SEE WHEN MY STUFF STARTS ARRIVING NEXT WEEK.

I've tried to get a catalog from opgi for two years. I've even paid five bucks for it once through super chevy mag. I've requested online at least six times. NO catalog. If they can't get me a catalog, how are they gonna get me parts? National Parts Depot does a fine job so far. The Elcamino store also seems good.

Hey Guy's

I just got my OPG catalog about 2 weeks ago, and the kicker is I don't remember ordering one! Maybe I ordered it 2 years ago and it finally arrived! I don't know maybe I'm getting alzheimers (that spelled right?) 8O

Nope, it's spelled "old-timers" :-D

 I don`t think much of OPG s attitude because I called them once and asked if they were going to be at the first year of the all GM Carlisle. The person on the other gave me a cold response and acted as if I was bothering him.I mean think about it ,if you have ever been to that show you won`t hardly see much 5th gen. stuff there not even used parts. It would be a gold mine of business for them but I guess they don`t care. I was just going to place an order, and remembered this thread. Can someone get back to me to tell me if we do actually get the 10% discount, and if we do, how do we use it? Thanks, -Chad Schloss, 77 Elky - Michigan

I ordered a catalog online at the begining of August and finally got it on Friday. After reading this thread,my confidence is a little shaky with this place. I've gotten parts at SS396.com and they were pretty good. However, some stuff only OPG offers. Are they a good company to deal with?

I've bought stuff from them without problems, got free catalogues, and always had pleasant phone calls with them. I would recommend them. Another place you may or may not have heard about is
www.musclefact.com (800) 762-0317 However it only covers Elkys and Chevelles from 64 to 72

Here's the reponse:

Peter,
Your 10% discount is valid when we do not have a promotion going on, right now there is a Sale, so the 10% discount is not available until the sale ends December 31st. After that the 10% is on as normal.

Thanks,
Scott

I'll call later this evening to see if this applies to sale items only...

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll keep looking. I have found the items I am looking for a tad cheaper elsewhere. Thanks again, 77Elky
