Hi all,

I bought my 72 Elky about a year ago, and was told after the engine had been rebuilt by the previous owner he yanked the A/C system. I want to put one back in!

I've been told it's as easy as going to a bone yard, finding an A/C unit from ANY Chevy 350, throwing in the parts and having the system recharged. Is this true?

Any ideas as to the cost of the parts? Amount of labor to put in the parts? or any other cost saving suggestions?

thanks!

Larry

If you are at all handy, installation of the A/C is not a big deal at all. But it also depends on what is still installed. If the evaporator and dash board controls are still there you have minimal problems. The evaporator is the suitcase like box that hung on the firewall.

If thats there, the only junk yard parts I'd trust are the hoses and compressor brackets and maybe the condensor (in front of radiator). I'd go for a new compressor, dryer, POA (or substitute) valve, and new expansion valve. You can find the prices of parts you need at any parts store web site and then compare to similar items on ebay.

what parts do you have? Inside dash controls, heater AC box, ductwork, outside evaporator and box, POA, condenser and some of the hoses are all I have. How much of your system is still here?
