: Driving an Elky doesn't automatically make you a bubba......
70ElkySS 07-19-2004, 03:43 PM .....unless it's this Elky:

rushgator 07-19-2004, 04:00 PM Quotes like this from the ad pretty much says it all....
"Windshield has a crack in it, top left corner. Original gauges do not work. I do have after market gauges, mounted under the dash. Some electrical wiring under the dash, needs to be gone thur, (looks like they had a whammer jammer stereo system hooked up and ripped it out)."
Maddening 07-19-2004, 04:55 PM I live in Alaska where there is snow on the road 6 months out of the year.. I could see a use for something like that. I've pondered what it would take to do that to mine even. But I could never do it. Guess I'm not enough of a redneck.
Supercharged 86 07-19-2004, 05:14 PM Uuuuummmmmm... NO!
theelcaminofactory 07-19-2004, 05:59 PM Although I don't believe in modifying classic muscle cars (if that's even a real SS) in such a way, I could imagine that being fun to drive...especially while going over the tops of a couple of Fords. I just bought a somewhat trickedout Z71 the other day, does this classify me as a Bubba too? 8)

only if you also have a mullet!
at least that seems to be the bubba-du-jour around here in North Florida :P
Dusty82 07-19-2004, 07:11 PM Oh come on.... While stuck in traffic, everyone reading this thread has thought, "If this was a monster truck 4X4 El Camino, I could just drive over the top of that Mazda over there, and maybe that mini-van...."
Still, it is a bit extreme. I can't see driving it to work every day. And I sure wouldn't want to try to offroad it - side-hilling would get pretty dicey with the center of gravity somewhere up around your armpit.
Bubba? Maybe, maybe not. It isn't on blocks in front of a double-wide, anyway...
Does it have astroturf for a bed liner? Just asking....
Elky77 07-19-2004, 08:36 PM I appreciate the effort, but what a waste of a nice looking 70 Elky.
I cute, but it has problems.
Elky were not ment to be four-wheelers.
They are cars, or trucks, or muscle cars, or muscle trucks, or..............
I'm confused. Help!
Elky77
Dusty82 07-19-2004, 10:46 PM Here's your keys, dude.... dude? dude?
Nurse, I need a 383 stroker in here stat!
10-40, with a Dexron II push....
No, no no no, NO! I said I wanted the minimum duration to be 312!
Points? Are you frippin mad?
Fuel tank isnt a problem - he can get one from....
I think we saved him this time. Just get those BIGFOOT posters out of here....
BigRed 07-20-2004, 05:01 AM I like it.
There are many old elky's out there that will never be restored so it should be looked at as another elky not going to it's grave. Now, if this was a nice shiny elky in good shape and someone did this to it then that's another story.
Personally, in maine, when winter rolls aorund I can't drive my elky the way it is. I would love to have a 4x4 "winter" elky and a normal "summer" elky. Maybe someday I'll dig up an elky carcass and build me a winter elky.
a73elkyss 07-20-2004, 06:34 AM C'mon now. While I agree, that the 4x4 Elky on Ebay is very tired, there are other 4x4 Elky's done quite well. Check out Chuck Little's '72 4X4 at z72elcamino.com (http://z72elcamino.com/stats.html). He has one fine looking and functional El Camino. I've always admired it and the craftmanship that went into putting it together.

I agree with Bigred, and would love to have both. I then could drive Elky's all throughout the year.
If that makes me a "bubba", so be it.
Tommy 07-20-2004, 08:59 AM I don't think that 305 2 bl. is going to do much for those tires!
Ironrod60 07-20-2004, 09:04 AM The guy is using glass packs for crying out loud! What is that 1970's?
He IS a bubba.
Supercharged 86 07-21-2004, 10:17 AM Why would anybody make a second one? here's another one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2484972404&category=6153)
elcamino74guy 07-21-2004, 04:39 PM Noise but doesn't smoke! Is there any oil left in it!
Won't make a long trip, bring a trailer! What kind of trailer
like one for a Bulldozer!
Really dig the flamed steering wheel cover.....eek...
Window cracked! That will happen again for sure. Might as well put lexan windshield in it with all that bouncing around!
THe 60 is just a travesty! Not my favorite generation but they should have left it alone...Not many of those left and to do that to it is just insane..
In any case, I've seen two of just such monsters running around PHX, AZ one is a third gen the other a fouth gen and the 4th Gen is actually riding about 2 feet higher than the first abortion we all looked at.
Well, at least with the body being that high you won't have to worry about door dings in the parking lot. And if you have a kia you can park it right under the EL without even having one of those 4 post lifts!
eeek...
8O 8O 8O

and you can change the oil standing up without the car on a lift....thats gotta count for somethin' huh?
and I agree about the '60! Thats just wrong....I mean this kind of crap is what Ranchero's were made for.... :P
Wes Turner 07-21-2004, 09:37 PM There is no accounting for taste. I would want to wear a disguise while driving this one!
Supercharged 86 07-22-2004, 07:31 PM A slightly nicer version... if there is one  Click here (http://z72elcamino.com/stats.html)
I think the 4x4 El Caminos are very cool for a street cruser, but I'd be afraid of destroying the body off roading, that's why I also own a 76 K5 Blazer. I couldn't turn my 78 El Camino into a 4x4, it's going too be a street rod. But I would like a 4x4 El Camino for running around town in.
72ss454Florida 07-23-2004, 05:08 AM A slightly nicer version... if there is one  Click here (http://z72elcamino.com/stats.html)
I guess I just dont understand the 4X4 thing - or more correctly the mudder thing. There's nothing wrong with it, its just not me.
But I agree that's a much nicer looking car all around. In fact it that was a 'regular' Elky, we would all praise how well it looks....I guess if I had to 'have' one, that would be the way I would want it to look.
Gimme 2 wheel rear-wheel drive anyday.....and about 550 HP!! :P
pinstripebob 07-23-2004, 01:55 PM You think I should grab that '60 and bring it back to what it was supposed to be? Nice, 2 wheel RWD, lots o' powa! He lives close. But that is horrible. Reminds of this one guy. 1959 Pontiac StarChief. He bought it 10 years ago, and it was a great candidate for restoration. He left it out side those 10 years, and it didn't have a rear window. It is destroyed, to the max. Although the big block does turn over really well.
Supercharged 86 07-26-2004, 02:16 PM First, I don't think you could bring that '60 4x4 thing back! Second, I'm seeing these everywhere since this post was made. Here's one of the more interesting ones. The bumperstickers say it all. The idea is growing on me though  Here it is (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/553229)
rushgator 07-26-2004, 03:47 PM The tailgate art pretty much says it all. At least he's honest. I guess he's having fun, nut IMO, thats a poor way to treat a 4th gen! 8O

He forgot to add the word "MORON" to the bottom of his tailgate. Maybe that's what the license plate says.... :-)
redneckracer305 07-28-2004, 06:30 PM hey i got to through my 2 cents in here mainly cause im kinda a redneck country boy my self, i have a mullet and an 85 elcamino i personally like he heads it turns as im going down the road, lol(im not kidding though). but seriously there aint nohin wrong with bein a country boy out havin fun
elcamino74guy 07-31-2004, 04:22 AM Anyone who puts a confederate flag next to Ol' glory then puts REDNECK in the middle of it is probably not a nuclear scientist. 8O
I would guess, however, that just such a person would get plenty of exercise during the Saturday night aerobic sparring sessions (barroom brawls) at the local honky tonk.... 8O
And what the hell is that rig on the back bumper! Looks like some kind of farm implement...Does he plow his fields with it??????!!!!!!
:D
Supercharged 86 07-31-2004, 04:32 AM click on my link in my last post and you can see the full body cage for your veiwing pleasure! :D

:D Do you mean the tube bumper with recovery loops ??? Under the El Camino's stock bumper right. I'm not sure, but it kinda looks like they stacked the El Camino frame and all on top of a 4wd pick up frame.http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/1/web/553000-553999/553229_29.jpg
pinstripebob 07-31-2004, 06:30 AM It's so if someone rearends him, they don't go under him. Instead they just hit the bar. He might farm with those loops though.
It's so if someone rearends him, they don't go under him. Instead they just hit the bar. He might farm with those loops though. I hope you're jokeing, cause once that thang gets a 6" suspension lift, and some 38" tires, they'll still go right under it. Yes, I own a lifted 4x4 as well as a El Camino.http://elcaminocentral.com/albums/album172/Ca_Blaz_1.jpg
elcamino74guy 07-31-2004, 01:39 PM Other doodads are chrome skull 4x4 shifter, and a deer skull on the front bumper.
Quote from the web page of the "Swamp Thing"
:P
pinstripebob 07-31-2004, 03:53 PM Well, if you don't want one, make sure you have gigantic wheels and tires on there. That way, if a car does rearend you and fly under you, it will just wedge underneath your rear wheels instead of destroying your rear end.
