: Need some help, my elkys got a dent
caspiantiger 07-27-2004, 08:15 PM ok i got my 86 maroon elky for a present from my gram, i love the car, but it has a dent in the back rear. i was just woundering how i would go about fixing it myself? can you buy like a rear quarter panel and just bolt it on or something? i am also thinking about painting it a different color. i wana trick it out. but i qwant to get the dent fixed before i paint it! any help and sugestions would be greatly apreciated
Black Knight 07-27-2004, 08:26 PM find out who the big dealers in your area use to "touch up" their used car inventory and get a cash quote for ''just" the dent, then find the local auto paint supply guys and have them use your paint code to load a spraycan up(yes they can do that) with the paint, clean the surface with paint thinner or spirits and slowly paint the spot....
If you don't know what your doing or have never seen what it really takes to get it right, you might be happy to know a dent can usually be r&r'd for not much more than the supplies($75?) if you can find the right scratch and touch up guy...
I mean face it, you want it to look at least ok don't you, until you can splurge for a candy coat or something slick
changing a quarter panel takes em off the road too long, and I think it weakens te integrity of the whole car
caspiantiger 07-28-2004, 09:11 AM ok thanks.

super haines 01-31-2005, 06:26 PM i just recently started on my body work and the farmer that owned the car before me must have been obsessed with bondo ther was a big crease in my door thats probably about 1 and a half inches deep and he just filled it with bondo the reason i started the body work was because my girlfriend got pissed one day and kicked my car door and she knows i love the car and a big chunk of bodno fell off so yes bondo sucks if its not done right
396driver 01-31-2005, 07:03 PM your lucky she kicked the bondo. Man, I can't imagine the restraint required if my girl kicked one of my caminos - but 2 words come to mind, slow and painful. Just kidding - maybe.
Moneypit 68 02-01-2005, 08:22 PM If MY girl kicked MY ride, I'd kick HER to the curb!
dabirdguy 02-01-2005, 08:49 PM I'm not a cat person, but After my first divorce I was given a cat. A really neat cat. Came when you called...that sort of thing.
I got married again and my second wife caused the cat to die.
I am on wife #3 now.
'Nuff said.

Man this guy has no experience in Body work and you guys are more or less telling him to go with a "Bondo" patch! Geez!
Don't bondo that dent. Push it out or hammer it out or even better, take it to a professional, "PROFESSIONAL" to have the necessary body work done.
Sometimes it is cheaper to replace metal than it is to beat it out and bondo it. For example a Front Fender for a 5th generation Elky "New" from one of the vendors is roughly 139.00. They come already primed and straight and ready to paint. If you had someone beat a dent out in a front fender then "BONDO" it and finally, paint it your going to spend more than twice that amount.
Bondo should ONLY be applied after all the dent has been removed with a Hammer and Dolly to smooth out the surface. about a 1/16" or less of patch on top of good sealing primer with absolutely NO HOLES under it. Bondo absorbs moisture, remember that.
Here is a link to a place you can buy that panel. It's just one of many that have this part. Don't cut yourself or your truck short. Nothing is a acceptable substitute for good quality work. retains the value of the vehicle and looks better, weighs less too.
