New Jersey Assemblymen Michael J. Panter and Dr. Robert Morgan are holding a public meeting on August 5 in Manalapan to discuss removing noise exemptions from Raceway Park. This would have serious implications for the track, and would jeopardize our pastime, and would negatively impact those whose livelihoods depend on the racing
industry.

From this article:

http://newstranscript.gmnews.com/news/2004/0721/Front_page/035.html

"Assemblymen will discuss issue of noise at drag strip"

Note that the article states "the as*semblymen's district office will send letters to approximately 3,000 residents in the affected areas during the week of July 19, inviting them to take part in the meeting."

If only 10% of those 3,000 invited people attend, that'll be 300 against the track. 300 people can be a loud bunch, that's why as many racers as possible should attend.

Here's another link: http://www.politicsnj.com/panter030304.htm

Note this quote from the article: "Panter said racing is key to our state economy and to the preservation of open space." He's referring to horse racing, an industry with which he seems to have a particularly strong interest. So how is auto racing track any different? Not very, with this
exception: a legally sanctioned dragstrip will help curb illegal street racing by giving speed enthusiasts a controlled environment to safely race their vehicles. I don't think a horse track offers the same benefit.
This safety aspect should be stressed to the local residents who have a problem with Raceway Park, the same residents who had ample opportunity to research the area BEFORE they bought their homes, the same residents who should be blaming their realtors or developers who may have purposely failed to disclose the location of the track.

What about Raceway Park's affect on the New Jersey economy? What businesses benefit from the continued healthy existence of Raceway Park? Hotels, restaurants, motorhome dealerships, truck dealerships, trailer dealerships, area gas stations, convenience stores, engine builders, chassis shops, transmission shops, speed shops, and other racing-related manufacturers.

Pass this email along to anyone who is getting fed up with the constant attacks on legally sanctioned drag racing. Today Raceway Park is in the crosshairs. If it doesn't stop here, then tomorrow it could be Atco, Island or some other quality racing facility.

Attention: Track Owners/Operators:

We, the staff at Raceway Park, want to bring to your attention legislation that will greatly affect the way racetracks in our state conduct business. In the last few weeks, our facility has come under heavy scrutiny regarding the noise levels which are emitted from our drag strip and the hours we are permitted to operate unmuffled vehicles. On Thursday, August 5th, a Public Meeting is being held to discuss the noise levels that affect the residents of nearby Englishtown and Manalapan townships. Monmouth County Assemblymen Michael J. Panter and Robert L. Morgan will discuss their recent legislation proposal to remove the Motor Vehicle Racetrack Exemption from the Noise Control Act of 1971 for the entire state of New Jersey. This exemption is what makes it possible for racetracks, of all types, to operate unmuffled vehicles. This move would be devastating to Raceway Park and could set off a number of changes in the way other racetracks operate both here in our area, as well as the rest of the state. Founded in 1965, long before the wave of housing developments that now dominate our area, Raceway Park has remained a place for motorsport enthusiasts of all kinds to come and enjoy the sports they love. Raceway Park has been able to stay open these many years based largely in part on the vocal support of the many local race fans who have helped us to fend off these attacks in the past.

We are, once again, asking for that support from local race fans and from those who want the laws to remain as they are. We want to silence those who oppose Raceway Park and the race facilities of New Jersey once and for all. The meeting is open to the public and will take place on Thursday, August 5th, at 7:00 PM in Manalapan Township at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters located at 125 Symmes Rd. The library is a mere 1/4 mile from the corner of Route 9 and Symmes Rd. and very easy to access. If you are unable to attend, please contact Assemblyman Panter and Assemblyman Morgan at 732-741-5599 and voice your opinion. You may also fax your thoughts to 732-741-0012 or contact them via email at asmmorgan@njleg.com or at asmpanter@njleg.com. If you e-mail, please copy Raceway Park at etownrcwy@aol.com. You can send a letter to them at New Jersey General Assembly, Legislative Office, The Galleria, 2 Bridge Avenue, Bldg. 2, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701, or contact your local assemblymen and voice your discontent for the proposal at hand. If possible, we ask that you come out and support Raceway Park and all of New Jersey’s racetracks and help to defeat this proposal. If passed, these changes will affect our all of our businesses and our futures immediately.

Thank you, The Staff of Raceway Park

This would affect all 3 dragstrips and possibly ALL motorsports in NJ. If anybody is local and can voice their opinion at this town meeting, please feel free to attend. Otherwise, voice your opinion through e-mail or telephone. There is also an online petition going around that I urge you to sign:

Thanks!
