you probably figured out by now i have a 1968 Elky with a 327 and im pritty sure its a malibu but not sure enough and i cant find any site to search my vin and get a correct read out can someone give me a good site so i can make sure thanks 8O :?:

I dont know of any web sites that can do that for you. I do, however have GM parts catalogs for that car and I may be able to help you decode your vin#. Send me a PM and I will try to help you out.

You can also just put the VIN and cowl tag numbers right here on this forum. Usually someone jumps on and takes a swipe at decoding it. A lot of us have the "Catalog of Chevelle, Malibu, and El Camino ID numbers 1964-87" by Cars & Parts Magazine 8) .

VIN is 135808B179515
1=Chevrolet
35=Malibu, Custom El Camino, 6 cyl
80= 2dr sedan pickup
B= Baltimore, MD assembly plant
179515= Represent the basic production numbers. Starting with 100001/up.
If you have a cowl tag number, I can give you some more info.

well thanks but i now wonder what motor becuase i didnt think the elky had a 6 cyl until the 70's wats your guys input?

According to the book of ID's and engine numbers, there was a 6 cyl made in '64 and up. The "35" part of your VIN is proof positive that it originally came with a 6 cyl.

Yep, they came with a 235 straight 6 in 68, and the 35 in the vin indicates it as such...
