06 is the build date: = June
D is the week = 4th week

AW80 = Series = El Camino 2-dr pickup delivery
Z= assembly plant = Fremont , CA
165063 = Production sequence of the BODY
77V = Interior trim - Dark Maple vinyl
19L = Black Lower Body color
19U= Black Upper Body color
72M = Accent color (striping) Could the M be an "A"??? I have a code 72A which is Light Maple.
L = Paint type = Lacquer
72Z = ????
2 = ????
970159 = ???
Lets see if others can help with the last digits.
Is this information close to what your Elky looks like???
Hope it helps
81_4fun 08-14-2004, 09:30 PM Thanks a73elkyss. The rig has changed a bunch on its many journeys. It has maroon interior, it is black & silver two tone. The motor was changed also, from a 305 to a 267. And yes the 72M is correct, so I am a little confused on that one. I do thank you a73elkyss very much for what you did decipher though. Take care... 81_4fun
a73elkyss 08-15-2004, 09:41 AM Glad you could use the information. It always amazes me how much our vehicles change from owner to owner.
Let see if some others can add the final pieces to your puzzle.

Great tip, but sad to say, records have been "lost" for anything prior to 1977.
I contacted Peggy and she was very nice, but was not able to help me with any info on my '73. I told her about our club / site and asked her if it was all right to freely publish her name and email. Here is her response: Jay,
Sure!
We have:
Chevy from 1977
Pontiac from 1987
Buick from 1982
Cadillac from 1980
GMC from about 1976
Olds from 1977
We have incomplete files for Canadian, Mexican, exported and Fleet vehicle
invoices.
The invoices are free for now. The process takes 6-8 weeks. Need name,
address, VIN, make and year.
Pontiac owners also have another resource: The Pontiac Historical Services
(phs-online.com) can provide invoices further back, but charges for them.
Hope this helps.

I am going to start a separate thread for this, so others can take advantage of this.
Hope it helps.
81_4fun 10-09-2004, 01:10 AM Sorry to hear that Jay. Yes she is great! Originally the lady to contact was Jennifer Knight, Peggy took over the job in May of this year. The info. about contacting Jennifer was started by another member here in our club, right now I can not remember who though. I just happen to save the e-mail I sent to her. I also hope this helps our other members who are interested in this info. and another thread would be great! Regards, 81_4fun/Richard
ElCafreak 10-09-2004, 07:23 AM Yea I originally sent my request to Jennifer and was told that she was out for a while. I'm waiting for my invoice from Peggy now. Don't remember when I sent it, but it must have been a month or two. I'm going to go out and check my cowl tag now and post it here for help deciphering it.
