This is a peoples judged car show. The sponsor car club will classify vehicles at the entry gate. They will try and park "classes" together as best as possible. Gates open at 7:00 AM. No foldable canopies (not enough room). Last year they had to shut off the entrance of show cars at 11:00 because of capacity issues. Over 600 show cars.

Let me know if you need more information or will be able to attend. I'm going to attend this show.

Remember to put "National El Camino Owners Association" for club affiliation on any entrance or pre registration form!!

Mini review:

A medium to large car show. Over 600 cars. A decent amount of auto "swap meet" type of vendors. Good car corral. Activities for small children. Awesome weather. Bright sun, no humidity, light breeze and around 75 degrees.

It was a participant judged show. I personally did not like the judging categories. While I know not every show can have an El Camino class, the car show sponsors put you in a class and there is no appeal of their decision. They break down cars by year and I got stuck in the "70 -77 modified stock". So, I'm in with some early '70’s Chevelles, 'Cudas, etc. I usually don't really belong with those types of vehicles. Now, if the year cutoff would have been '73 - 77...... Otherwise, I would have preferred to be in the "2WD - Truck" class. I at least would have felt more "at home" with them. I did not see many other El Camino's, plus, they were spread out over different year breakdowns.

One kind of contest/raffle we enjoyed was the "How long will it run" contest. They drained all water and oil out of this car from a junkyard. You buy a block of "time" to guess how long the car will run before it seizes up. We chose around 3 min and the car lasted only 1 min 45 seconds. Hey it was fun to watch and cheer on a car until it blows. You should have heard the damn thing knocking right before it stopped. The profit went to a charity.

Dian and I spent our time checking out and judging some fantastic cars and trucks. We traveled about 80 miles for this show, so for the most part, the cars we saw were not the normal ones we see at our local cruise nights/car shows. We checked out the swap meet parts. Didn't find anything for our '73 Elky. Oh, what a surprise! Also spent some time promoting NECOA and El Camino Central with some "recruitment" flyers /business cards and talking to others about Elky's in general.

I would recommend this show. We will attend this car show next year, just maybe arrive a bit earlier.
