I imagine I will make the Rod Run this time, since the Elky is running now.
I doubt I will stay overnight, will probably only come for Saturday, but the wife is wanting to go out of town for Thanksgiving, so I may not get to go after all....I will let you all know.
By the way, Chris, I might indeed stop by and watch Trinity play a game - or at least listen to the drum section - and see if you can hear my flowmasters over your drums! :P
Is Dorminey still the Conquerer's coach? How do you think they will be this year?
take care.
re: turkey run
if you are going to show your elky at turkey run, do you want to get a special parking area for el caminos? like the am guys do in the drivers rec area (grass and play area for children, nice) the cost is extra about 3. per car plus your registration fee talk it up so we can get our request in I'll collect the money at the fiesta the 18th of sept if we decide to do this
79Elky267 08-20-2004, 02:41 PM ya Dorminey is head coach still but this coming up thurs the 26 we will be playing our first song at halftime but the drumline will be playin most of our cadences
80elcamino 08-20-2004, 03:27 PM Ya'll read my mine. This is my first year of owning my elky and I was wanting to go to the Rod Run. My Friend that has a 70 chevelle ss and a friend with a 71 NOVA might be there as well.
Yes I would like to stay in a hotel with fellow owners and yes a special spot sounds do-able. Anyone know if we can get group discounts if we can commit to a hotel. We need some Rod run Vets to help us organize this, Don't We?
Trinity is pretty good but so is my al ma mater CHS!!; in Lake city.
Elky77 08-20-2004, 09:38 PM I've been to the Turkey Rod Run twice in recent years. We have family in Ormond Beach (I'm there/here now). We will be back to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with our family.
I would suggest that you post an "announcement" on the site about meeting. Then have someone local find a good place and time for all to meet. And then, again, post the meeting place as an announcement on the site.
You might be surprised at how many out-of-town members plan to be in the area during that holiday.
I'll look for the "announcement" on the site and will be there. I'll not have the 77 elky though. Cincinnati is to far to drive it.
See you guys there,
Elky77
PunkRican 08-22-2004, 07:58 PM Depending on what the family wnats to do for teh holiday i may be tehre a day or two. I'll most likely take the elky, but I don't know that I'll be registering since I won't be hoteling most likely or spending the whole day(s) there. It'd be nic etho to meet somewhere in or out, sepcially out so those of us w/o our cars in can still see each others cars.
Steve84Ec 08-25-2004, 08:51 AM At the bellair plaza tons of cars go out there during the rod run, i think that would be a good place for a meeting, that way its free.

that sounds good to me, Steve....where exactly is Bellair Plaza? is that the old mall across from the main entrance to Daytona? Also, what day is best...I will probably only be there on Saturday due to my work schedule.
if everyone else is agreeable, lets start promoting it on the main site, so out of towners like Elky77 can know where to look for us. We can hang the banner and I maybe someone has one of those of fold up tent top things that are like 10 x10 that would be good as well....
Steve84Ec 08-25-2004, 09:08 AM I'm pretty sure its on a1a, i'll check, been a while since i have been out there. From what i have seen, usually most cars parked at the show, end up cruising through there.
72ss454Florida 08-25-2004, 09:15 AM cool, Steve.
I started a topic on the Cruises and Events forum, and I think we should host the event for all our NECOA members. If we plan it well enough and get the word out, everyone traveling to the show can try to meet with us...
80elcamino 08-25-2004, 09:56 AM could you post the link to the topic?

as you wish :P Turkey Run Forum topic (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5801)
rushgator 08-31-2004, 10:09 AM I'll definitely be at the rod run. I haven't missed it in about 9 years. I probably will not bring my '86 Elky 'cause I live in Dallas, but I have family in Ormond Beach (I'm here visiting now) that I visit every turkey day holiday. So, I'll be there in my Dad's '57 Bel Air instead. If we want to have a NECOA meet and greet at Bellair Plaza, that would be a good place. Thats where all the nightime action is anyways. Bellair is on A1A across from the LaPlaya hotel. The lot is usually very crowded, especially at the front, so get there early. It's kind of an unofficial car corral too. Anyway, if someone who lives local wants to set time and place, I'll be sure to show up. Also, during the week of the rod run, there are several nightime cruise-in events at local restraunts, so when these start putting out flyers, we may want to just pick one and show up together. Anyway, I'll keep checking this forum for time and place. Looking forward to it!
80beachprostreet 09-01-2004, 06:44 PM I am new to the site and just purchaced my first elky a 1980 pro street
and can't wait to go on sat, the 27 down to the rod run, is anybody
planning a get together spot for all uf the cars to drive down together? 8)
SarasotaSpeeder 10-07-2004, 07:54 PM Hey Everyone,
So let's call Steak & Shake (S&S) our meeting place Sat 7pm. OK! We are arriving Friday and would like to meet and greet Friday there or anywhere else any suggetions? So those of us coming Friday we'll see you there. I think for parking inside if we meet outside Sat. morning 10ish and cruise-in together we will have a better chance of grouping in the open parking area. I've seen done before, this should give travelers time to meet at S&S. What'd ya think?
80elcamino 10-07-2004, 07:59 PM sounds good so S&S friday or sat I couldn't understand where "there" was (raceway or SS). Anyone know if they have handicap parking? If so how close is it? I know normal parking is like a mile away at least.
Steve84Ec 10-08-2004, 05:35 AM Steak and Shake sounds good to me, good food. I'll be there that night for sure, not sure about the saturday though, i usually have to work on saturday's. I'm gonna request this one off though.
and parking, i'm not sure about how the handle handicap parking, sorry
Steve84Ec 10-09-2004, 05:35 AM Awesome stuff, me and the guy i work with decided to split that weekend, so i am going to the run saturday, he is going sunday. Both of us have el caminos, so this might give me an edge in getting parts, lol.
for those of you who have not checked the events forum here's the scoop on the turkey run...inside your on your own ( we should plan now for the spring so we could park in a group)...outside every day of the meet thurs thru sun...region 6 will be meeting in the northwest cornor of the best buy parking lot. it's accross from the track, near the cross over bridge, close to barns and noble. there's a traffic light there too......we'll meet from 4 to 6 pm cruise to the hilton the host hotel then east on speedway to steak and shake ( should hit it around 7pm) finaly cruise down seedway to a1a and north to bellaire plazza....we can decide at the parking lot if we want to go to other cruise-ins
Steve84Ec 10-11-2004, 02:17 PM that all sounds good to me
turkey run set....see above post , we cruise each nite. thurs, fri, sat, sun, meet in best buy parking lot by barnes& noble 4-6 pm to start each cruise.if your late or no one is there ,,, look for the sign...(sort of like a treasure hunt ...find the el caminos)
72ss454Florida 11-22-2004, 09:17 AM okay at long last, I have scanned in Peter's map of the cruise route. It is faint,a nd I apologize for that. It had to resize for my Member gallery, because my webpage was down, so the resolution isnt as good as it should be. I recommend that you 'save' the picture to your drive, then open it and stretch it to fit your print preview window to be able to print it at a size to read it correctly.

PunkRican 11-22-2004, 04:05 PM so im guessing that if we plan on being part of the cruise that we shoudl go to the show before 4 o clock?
80elcamino 11-22-2004, 04:28 PM the show is 8 am to 4 pm so it'll be over in time for something to eat and to get to the cruise.
Steve84Ec 11-22-2004, 06:05 PM I cruise a night or to. I can't wait till saturday, been saving money for this, always cheap parts.
72ss454Florida 11-22-2004, 07:29 PM Yeah, I am gonna try to sell my Elky if I can get it there....would have to tow it, cause it aint runnin good now....
I am gonna sell it for $4800 firm, a steal... but I need to move it fast. You guys talk it up with your friends. Show them the pics on page 6 of the 3rd gen members gallery, and the first to hand me 4800 gets it. If anyone wants they can call me anytime before the show 904-514-2842 (7:30 AM to 10:30 PM)
I will be at the show cruise either way though, and look forward to seeing you all. If my car dont run, and anyone's got an extra 'seat' for me I would love to cruise with you that night. :P
Steve84Ec 11-22-2004, 07:34 PM If i didn't just get a camaro project for myself, i would probably be all over that, to bad you didn't decide to sell it a few weeks ago, lol.
SarasotaSpeeder 11-25-2004, 12:33 AM Hey I'm bringing along some leftover part from recent upgrades on my 1971. Hoping to pickup some spending cash. I have a beautiful black cloth bench seat, extra headrests, a 7 blade stainless flex fan with spacer, bolts and cowl, 1 1/4 front swaybar urethane bushings and anything else I'm not using in the garage.
Steve84Ec 11-25-2004, 07:29 AM I went to belair last night...... :D :D :D awesome cares. Couple studmino's, few normal el caminos, lots of camaros, customs, and turkey run hadn't even started yet, lol.
rushgator 11-25-2004, 04:45 PM Went to the car corral today....all I can say is huge. It's bigger than some car shows I have been to. Lots of nice rides, some with big prices too! Hopefully I'll see some of you guys tomorrow. BTW, pick up todays edition of the News-Journal beacuse Peter and his Elky are in it.

80elcamino 11-25-2004, 08:18 PM what are the night activities like?
They say they have a flame throwing contest and "slow drags" what are these and are they worth seeing?
rushgator 11-27-2004, 11:14 AM I'm not really sure...there was some "unofficial" flame throwing at Bel Air last nite about 10. A1A and Bel Air is where all the action is after dark anyway. I think what you are talking about is the "official" activities at the speedway and/or host hotel, right? BTW, sorry I didn't make the cruise last nite...I forgot that my dad had planned to have his '57 in the gaslite parade, which was at 7 yesterday. I don't have my own ride here this year, so I kinda have to go along with the set schedule. How did last nite's cruise go?
Coach Dan 11-29-2004, 03:53 AM My 18 year old son and myself attended the 31rst annual Turkey Run in Daytona Sunday, We drove up from where we live in Palm Beach County, It took 3 hours to get there and was we surprised to see the turnout of quality automobiles, what a show, great weather and great people to talk to, We are currently seeking out to buy a 79 Diablo, and looking foward to customizing this thing ourselves, I am very fortunate to be able to do this kind of work myself and we should have a great Father - Son bonding time doing so, The Turkey Run was unbelievable, How do some of these cars get away with running open headers or no exhaust on the street? Sure sounds good huh, My son kept saying.....WOW....Dad look at this..... He was really excited....We saw alot of El Caminos there some customized some stock and some needing alot of work, all in all a great day, we will also be attending in March but we will be spending the night in a hotel, By then we will be shopping for El Camino parts for our little project.....If you have never gone, you gotta go, I have over 100 digital photos I took of alot of different cars there, let me know if you're interested in seeing some...............Dan
