Those that have never been, here is a link to a couple of websites about the event Turkey Run (http://www.turkeyrun.com/) and Official Site and history (http://daytonabeachcarshows.com/thistory.html) that shows you a little about it... 5,551 cars last year!! 8O

if its not too long of a drive for you, you may also be interested in showing up for our meet at old town sept 18th. i know some guys are driving from up tehre so maybe you guys could cruise together or soemthin, its always nice to have new people come on board. welcome to the site.
PunkRican 08-25-2004, 03:56 PM on another note, all this sound sgood and dandy but what day(s) exactly r we planning on meeting?, cause i knwo not everyone will show up for all 3 days, maybe even all of one.
80elcamino 08-25-2004, 04:34 PM the 2 best day's I hear are the 26-27. that way no one is setting up or tearing down.
79Elky267 08-25-2004, 08:36 PM You can count on me and my dad being there in my 79 Elky
72ss454Florida 08-25-2004, 08:42 PM I vote for the 27th...Saturday....that probably represents the most viable day for everyone just because its a weekend, but I could go on the 26th if I had too....but I would rather it be the 27th...
spread the word...
Elky77 08-25-2004, 09:11 PM This is the second post on this subject. We've suggested that a local person find a spot to meet and a day to meet. We then tour the show together.
Seems simple enough, except someone local has to step up and do the work.
I'll be in Ormond Beach the whole weekend. Let me know and I'll be there. No Elky ofcourse, we are using the jet to travel this time.
Please keep me informed,
Elky77
80beachprostreet 08-26-2004, 12:15 PM Old town on the 18 sounds great can't wait to get there, and the 27 for Daytona sounds good too. I have actually been to the A1A and hooters
drive in once before, and plan to do so agian.
rushgator 08-31-2004, 10:15 AM I'll definitely be at the rod run. I haven't missed it in about 9 years. I probably will not bring my '86 Elky 'cause I live in Dallas, but I have family in Ormond Beach (I'm here visiting now) that I visit every turkey day holiday. So, I'll be there in my Dad's '57 Bel Air instead. If we want to have a NECOA meet and greet at Bellair Plaza, that would be a good place. Thats where all the nightime action is anyways. Bellair is on A1A across from the LaPlaya hotel. The lot is usually very crowded, especially at the front, so get there early. It's kind of an unofficial car corral too. Anyway, if someone who lives local wants to set time and place, I'll be sure to show up. Also, during the week of the rod run, there are several nightime cruise-in events at local restraunts, so when these start putting out flyers, we may want to just pick one and show up together. Anyway, I'll keep checking this forum for time and place. Looking forward to it!
pdekraker 09-18-2004, 07:55 PM I live in Daytona, and so does my 79 Elky. I'll be at the run if I can get enough work done on the car by then so that I'm not completely embarrassed to have her out in public :-D
80elcamino 09-18-2004, 08:59 PM Hey, I'm debating what days to go. I can't really afford to go but maybe 2 days and wanted to know what 2 days are the best (even if there not consecutive). I like some of the night events that I've heard described, and I've heard that Sunday is when the deals happen. I wish I could have found an Itinerary. Any help is welcome from Turkey run vets.
Elky77 09-18-2004, 11:58 PM Is someone local going to pick a day, time and meet location?
We could all meet, greet, cruise to the speedway and tour the show together.
Please, step up, it's not hard.
Let us know.
Elky77
72ss454Florida 09-19-2004, 01:22 PM Mike, we talked yesterday (Saturday) at the Old Town meeting about the Run, and there was some discussion of the possiblities, but nothing set in stone.
We talked that because the Run is soooo huge, its tough to see everything anyway, much less find a bunch of people - like a needle in a haystack....so we discussed setting up a place near the track, but outside, like a Mall or something, that everyone in NECOA could locate during their visit to the Run, and at least meet a few of us....
or we could try to meet inside....
Peter O'Rourke lives in Daytona, and works as a volunteer at for the Run.
I personally have never been to the Run myself, and live 90 miles away, so I am reluctant to offer too much in the way of recommendations for those reasons. We have several members who live in or near Daytona, as well as many other members in all NECOA that have been before and can offer better solutions than I.
however, I am more than willing to do my part promoting some of the things, and even going down a little early to help in any way I can.
Lets hear from not only the Florida people but some of you veterans of the Run with some suggestions.
rushgator 09-23-2004, 02:08 PM Everyone is right about the run...it's huge, huge, huge. Finding anyone out at the track is like looking for a needle in a haystack that covers several acres. I think the best thing to do if we want to have a good NECOA meet and greet is to select a local restaurant and pick a time and make that our meet. If anyone wants to go to the track the next day together, we can plan that at that time. However, if you want to show your Elky at the track together with other NECOA members, we would need to preregister as a car club. That way we get much better parking than the individuals do, and we are guaranteed a place together. Anyway, back to the meet part. My suggestion would be to meet Saturday night Nov. 27 at 7:00 at the Steak n Shake on the corner of Speedway Blvd and Nova Rd. There is plenty of parking, as the restaurant is next to a mall (it's also across the street from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts....desert anyone?). If this is agreeable to all, then we will need someone local to check with the Steak n Shake to see if this would be OK (and maybe con a discount or some freebees as well). That's my idea for the day....discuss!
72ss454Florida 09-23-2004, 05:55 PM good ideas Glenn. I like the Steak n Shake idea as well.....with all those muscle cars....'shake' might take on a whole new meaning!! :P
as for having a group, I learned from a fellow employee and many time veteran of the Run ( a Mustang'er ) that this year there is a 15 car MINIMUM to hold a spot for your group/club. At $3 a spot extra on top of the ticket prices.
It could be done, but thats getting kind of steep without firm commitments of who wants to bring in their Elky's.....but time is running out, so if any of you want to do the group thing...NOW is the time to commit, and Peter O'Rourke can probably get us hooked up and reserved....
speak up all.... :eh:
80elcamino 09-23-2004, 06:37 PM I'm still wanting to know what the best day to go if your just looking. Once I know that, I can commit. Plus I need to know when to reserve a Hotel.
pdekraker 09-23-2004, 07:25 PM I'll be at Steak and Shake on the 27th at 7 pm then. If nobody else shows up, well, it happens.
rushgator 09-24-2004, 02:16 PM Can you really go wrong with a place that's on the corner of streets called "Speedway" and "Nova"? :)
72ss, thanks for the info on group spots. It would be nice if we could pull it off, as the club spots are much better than being out in the general population. If we can get some people to commit, then lets do it. I will not have my Elky in Daytona as I will most likely be flying there, but I will be there in my Dad's '57 Bel Air. I think it would look rather nice surrounded by Elkys anyway. So, if enough people want a group spot, I can be there if you don't mind a '57 in the mix.
As far as the best day to go (as far as number of cars), I'd say Saturday. By Sunday, many of the northerners are pulling out for the long trip up I-95. And of course on Thurs and Fri, many are not there yet. However, I like Sunday for avoiding the big crowds, and getting good deals from vendors who don't want to haul all those parts back home to sit all winter.
80elcamino 09-24-2004, 03:58 PM What is all this I hear about the night events. Are they "unofficial", Are they worth while to join and/or watch. What is there to do at night and on which nights are the best.
And P.S. what are the "slow drags" They talk about on their site?
PunkRican 09-24-2004, 06:03 PM I posted on the region 7 forum which is GA and Alabama and Tennessee i think, and the region with Mississippi and them to see if any of them were interested in driving down in case they hadnt seen this, told em to check it out. if any of them confirm or anything maybe we can egt the spot after all, btw i cant quite confirm bc i have to know if ill be abel to take the car and go out and such, but ive got high hopes for it.
fl elky 10-01-2004, 05:57 AM I will be there at steak and shake at 7. I would be willing to do the group show as well. Just keep me informed.
80elcamino 10-01-2004, 06:15 AM still waiting on info about the night activities. This will affect when I'll come.
Plz help!
look for a meeting place to be set and a time for same to be posted next week....it's too late for a parking spot together inside....but, we can start planning for the spring show... there are several large parking lots close to the track thus, easy to find for out of towners..steak and shake is being considered for the desert lovers..we could meet and cruise there... more next week.....
rushgator 10-01-2004, 02:22 PM ...it's too late for a parking spot together inside.....
I'm not surpised. It fills up fast. I'll be looking for the time and place confirmation here soon. BTW, the S & S meet location is just a suggestion since I had not seen any as of yet. If there is a better place for us to meet, then I'm game for about anything.
PunkRican 10-04-2004, 04:26 PM steak and shake seems quite proper really. classic crs at a classic restaurant. and with so much muscle under the hood, who can resist the fatness of their food to counter it :P
80elcamino 10-04-2004, 06:02 PM Alright! I made my reservation. I'll be there friday night and saturday!
Couldn't belive that I was able to find a hotel less than 8 miles away. and under $100.
SarasotaSpeeder 10-07-2004, 09:23 PM Hey Everyone,
So let's call Steak & Shake (S&S) our meeting place Sat 7pm. OK! We are arriving Friday and would like to meet and greet Friday there or anywhere else any suggetions? So those of us coming Friday we'll see you there. I think for parking inside if we meet outside Sat. morning 10ish and cruise-in together we will have a better chance of grouping in the open parking area. I've seen done before, this should give travelers time to meet at S&S. What'd ya think?
80elcamino 10-07-2004, 09:37 PM You know, every one should try and get a elky central shirt so we can ID fellow elky central users. I know it cost money but it would help the site.
Plus if you can afford to go, you can dole out $20.
I got mine!
rushgator 10-08-2004, 10:56 AM Well, I got an El Camino ball cap. Does that count? :D
ok, here we go for the turkey run.every day...thurs,fri,sat,sun from 4pm to 6pm .florida region 6 will be at the northwest cornor of the best buy parking lot. it's accross from the track , there is a traffic light there , it is close to the foot bridge that spans hiway 92 (speedway blvd.)on the blvd., is a barnes and noble bookstore so it's easy to find..... we'll meet and talk and then around 6 we'll cruise first to the host hilton hotel check it out ,then hit the steak and shake , and finaly down to bellaire plazza. so it dosen't matter which day you show up , or if your running late..... each day will be the same so you know where we are and what's happening...there also is a hooters near by , let me know your thoughts on that...
SarasotaSpeeder 10-11-2004, 08:58 AM R-59
Is the traffic at the turkey run half as bad as the spring fling show? It really sucked trying to cruise then. Are you planning just a cruise by the Hilton or a stop? Sound interesting, imagine a line of Elkys cruising in to the bellaire plazza. I have not been there before is it large enough and how late does it last? Your one of our locals your input is greatly appreciated. Someone get a picture PLEEZ
yes the traffic is bad ....but when it's the worst, we'll be over at the parking lot, we'll take the backway to the hilton (behind the track) stop and check out the hilton, then go east on speedway to steak and shake ,some of the traffic should have cleared out by then
rushgator 10-11-2004, 11:07 AM I'm all for it. I should be there at least one nite, if not two. Sounds like fun. Yes, the traffic will be bad, but it's some of the nicest looking/sounding traffic you'll ever be a part of! R-59, thanks for organizing. I'm all for a trip to Hooters one night if you like.
80elcamino 10-11-2004, 04:09 PM I agree r-59, ThanX!
I also want to go back to the hooters across from the track But I'll bet they will be the busiest restaurant in town.
Steve84Ec 10-12-2004, 05:46 AM Winghouse is a hooters like place(I think its better) and its just down the road a bit, but i think that places gets just as busy, if not busier the hooters.
