: El Vegamino! What has this world come to?
a73elkyss 08-26-2004, 08:18 PM I just find this incrediable that it has as many bids as it does.
El Vegamino (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2487896847&indexURL=5&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting)
Just plain wrong..... in so many ways.

John Harris 08-27-2004, 07:59 AM I wonder if it would look better -- and acceptable to this touch audience here at ECC -- if the top was chopped a few inches and slightly slopped to the rear? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I support anyone who promotes El Camino fever.
a73elkyss 12-17-2004, 07:12 AM I have recieved an email from the new owner of the "vegamino". He is very proud of his new purchase.
I think my comments might have pi$$ed him off a bit. Sorry Larry, but I'll still stick with a real El Camino any day. 8)
How about if I make it up to you and wish you the best with your new vegamino.
Are we O.K. now brother???? :-)
Just plain wrong..... in so many ways.
Hey Jay, I'm with you on your original comments.
I am sure the guy that did this spent many hours on it, but he could have spent the same amount of time (and maybe less money) restoring a nice 3rd gen instead.
The final selling price was $2,551.33. The seller admitted over $10,000 went into butchering the Vega.
wojo 79 Elky Classic 12-17-2004, 07:20 PM yeah... i think that its a waste of that guys life,
dabirdguy 12-17-2004, 08:37 PM So.........

From Larry's email, he states that he also has a '71 Elky. I'm not sure if he is a present member with his Elky or not. He also claims that he gets most of his props from the Vegamino, not the Elky. I can't imagine where he lives. I don't think Larry really wants to hear from me again or listen to my opinions
But regardless, we are the National El Camino Owners Association, so with his '71 Elky, he would be welcome......but a Vega???
John Harris 12-17-2004, 09:15 PM Oh, we gotta let him join -- if he can stand putting up with all of us!
vega_guy_76 12-17-2004, 10:03 PM ...but a Vega???
:sigh:
:-P
I like it, except the door/window design. And the fact that they used the liftgate window for the cab window, which is much too big to look good.

dabirdguy 12-17-2004, 11:38 PM Geez...
I guess that the next thing we are gonna see someone circumsize like that will be what...a PACER???
YUK...
a73elkyss 12-18-2004, 07:28 AM Morning vega_guy_76 (Charles). I knew I'd here from you. Sorry about the "Vega" remark brother
Moneypit 68 12-18-2004, 07:33 AM Don't know how long that small 4-popper rear end would put up with a healthy V8...Overall it's a cool enough concept car but NOT a ElCamino! Would have been better served (in my opinion) to leave the shell of the body alone, tub the sucker, narrow 9" and 4-link,reinforce the frame, and build a serious street romper/strip freak. If I had 10G to put into a project, and right now I wish I did, I wouldn't end up with something that looked like that!
Oh, we gotta let him join -- if he can stand putting up with all of us!
Sure, anyone can join, but why would he want to? It's a Vega.
theelcaminofactory 12-18-2004, 12:39 PM I say let him join...but since his Vegamino is about half the size of an El Camino...only award him half the points whenever he submits a post. And for those that don't know it I bet that car is easily capable of 12sec ET's or quicker in the quarter mile (this may be a clue as to why it's called Wild Thing) while still getting good gas mileage during normal driving.
rombisoid 12-18-2004, 06:07 PM Even Vega's need lovin,, but not by me. Really, some ppl think that the Vega is a REAL car, but don't tell them the truth, might break their little hearts :)
I vote, if this is a vote, let him join, he does have taste, he has a '71 :D
79HellCamino 12-19-2004, 06:33 AM I LOVE the 72 Vegas.
But butchered like that... NO WAY!!!
That*** THING*** almost made me throw up a little, what a waiste.
hotrod330a 12-19-2004, 07:43 PM nice to see such a commotion this little vegamino has caused and yes it will run under 12;s in the quarter ill try to get some pics and show yuns also the rearend is the weaklink as it is a 7.5 10 bolt out of a vega cosworth but the fake tailgate says it all, I also run a blown front engine dragster that runs 4.50 eighth mile at 160mph and its easier to keep straight . Nice site
vega_guy_76 12-20-2004, 07:16 PM Larry,
Congrats on being the new owner of that Vega. I would like to invite you to join all of us other H-body guys at V8Monza (http://www.v8monza.com). We also have our message board here: V8Monza Message Board. (http://p206.ezboard.com/bv8hbodytalk)
