Hello from a new member. I am writing for my brother-in law about front disc brake swaps. From what I gather any a-body 68-72 will work or 70-72 monte carlo will also work. I was wondering about the difficulty of the 3rd gen f-body swap. I am looking for something that more or less bolts up with no major fabrication. Thanks for the advice

What year car are you swapping the brakes to?

It is for a 1970 El Camino
The 3rd gen swap is not a huge problem, but its not as easy as the others you mentioned. First the ball joint a is different size. The body needs to be turned down in a lathe to a slightly smaller diameter. But this swap is so popular now, you can buy the ball joints already turned. I believe that both Hotchkiss & Global West & probably many others sell these ball joints.
The second problem is that to get a proper wheel alignment, you need to use the high dollar upper control arms from Hotchkiss or G W or others. Again not a huge amount of additional work but they are exensive.
To throw a bit more into this, I personnally know of someone who used the f body spindles & didn't use the aftermarket control arms. He did use a set of OFFSET crossshafts from MOOG. He is very happy with his setup. The info he posted is here: http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php/topic/33/37.html
For much more info check the links here: http://links.chevelles.net/links/WorkShop/Brakes_Suspension/ Probably more info than you can digest at one sitting.
