That's the Holden ute...quite possibly the next new generation El Camino. That's the first one I've seen converted to left hand drive though. Holden also makes the Manaro...which is the new GTO converted to left hand drive with a different front fascia.

Yep. I have a 2004 GTO made by Holden (check my avatar and sig). Im trying to push for the ute to come over as the elCamino. We have several threads (with lots of pictures) on the GTO site that I moderate. One pic even showed up the other day of a Green ute with a Chevrolet front end. www.ls1gto.com

I'm sure that the ute with an LS1 motor would make a very interesting vehicle to drive. I'm not sure yet if I could accept it as the next El Camino. Maybe with some tweaking here and there. I don't care for the looks of the car from the side...the roof lines just don't look right too me...it needs to be sleeker looking. I'll have to admit that if Chevy was going to bring back the El Camino, the ute is what we're probably going to get, after all the plants built, the auto workers are in place, the tooling is there, all you need now is a front end change and build it with left hand drive, slap some El Camino emblems on and sell sell sell...right GM? I think GM has just about ruined or discontinued every product line that was successful in the past (exception the Vette) I can now just about fit a new Malibu into the bed of my El Camino. (???) What the hell we're these guys thinking? If your going to change the product, can't they come up with a new name to go along with it? Real Impalas, Novas, Malibus and EL CAMINOS' are a thing of the past and bye bye Camaro, you were so successful but we are idiots and morons at GM now so bye bye! Gee maybe Ford does have a better idea...they still produce the Mustang...and it's still successful! (SSR...yucko! if I want something that looks like a 52 Chevy, I'd have a 52 Chevy) Maybe it's me maybe I'm just to critisizing and don't like change

I agree with Mike. It's nice but it should never be called an El Camino.

The roof lines remind me of that Impala/Elky of awhile back. To blunt and unflowing. How's this?

or with a rear window wing:

And lenghtened and lowered:

Sorry I did them really quick so they're not perfect.

Some of the same things have been said about the GTO. "No hood scoops", "exaust out the same side", "not agressive looking enough". My GTO is everything that the original GTO was, but better. More HP, safer, and Much more comfortable.

The UTE is an AWESOME vehicle. I do not want the same thing every single year. IMHO, the elCamino would look very close to the current Ute, had the line continued. Honestly, if they were to import this ute this year, and call it the 'ute', wouldnt you say "that should have been called an elCamino"?

When the Zeta platform hits the US in '06 (or '07?), I expect the elCamino to come back. There are photos out there of a current ute, LHD, with a Chevrolet bowtie front end. Combine that with the LS2 for the Monaro and GTO (AND SSR) for the '05 model, the '06 or '07 elCamino is going to be my next vehicle.

I looked at the front end on the South African Ute's I initially did not like the way it looked. The front view of that green one looks better at that angle. It's just NOT right to have a bow tie ute in another country other than the states! :-(
