Does anyone know off the top with the width of '72 EC differential is flange to flange? When I bought mine, it had/has an earlier differential (pre-'67 I think) and I would like to replace it.

My memory says 64-67 are 53.5 backing plate to backing plate, and 68-72 are about 54.25

Different numbers here: http://www.dalesplace.com/htm/information/axlecodes.htm Way down near the bottom of the page. Dale is usually pretty acurate.

I've dredged this old thread back up because I think I found a rear in a boneyard.

The previous posts gave me three different answers and last night I found another source that said the flange to flange was 54"-55".

Help me here.

The 1964-67 Chevelle housings measure 60.5 inches drum-to-drum. The 1968-72 housing measures 2 inches wider which would be 62.5 inches drum-to-drum.
