Cruise control sets OK on the car ('84 with 305, 4bl, auto) but does not resume after braking. Did some continuity checks and found the either the resume button or its wire to the connector under the steering column are broken.

This is the multifunction handle -- cruise control, intermittent wipers, headlight dimmer, plus turn signals all in one handle. Looks like the cruise control switches are the only thing actually in the handle. Wiper switch is the the base for the handle and dimmer and turn signals are linkages off the handle. So this weekend I decided to pull out the handle, but can't figure out how to get the handle out of the windshield woper switch. Do I have to replace the whole cruise control handle and wiper switch as one assembly?

The cruise handle pulls straight out of the wiper switch, grab it and pull. But, before you remove the switch, locate the four pin flat connector down about middle of the steering column...there will be a small hole drilled in to the connctor. Take a strand of bailing wire and wrap it through the hole, so that when you remove the switch, and pull the wiring harness through the column, you will also pull throught the bailing wire. Then, you will be able to attach the new switch connector to the wire and pull it back down through the column. Also, I still have a few reproduction chrome/black cruise switches w/pulse wiper in stock.

So it just takes a little more force? I can do that -- after I reassemble the steering column so I can pull on it. Guess I can call this afternoon a little learning experience

The handle that's in the car now has a chrome base, and black end where the cruise buttons are, and this car does have the intermittent wipers--sounds like that's the handle you have available. Yes I found the connector--that's how I determined the switch was bad, didn't get continuity thru the connector for resume. Cool that they put in a hole for a pull wire.

Please e-mail directly with price and ordering instructions. thanks

OK, got the steering column reassembled -- that was interesting. Oh yeah, the car has tilt steering wheel too. Somehow the upper bearing came apart during the job, so there was lots of play in the wheel. The retainer that holds the bearing got bent a little so it couldnt hold it all together. Took a few tries to get it straightened up so the spring under the wheel could push it back home. Feels fine now.

But the button for the 4-way flasher was also broken.
acauth, mebbe you should just send a catalog.
