well since september 02' i have been doing body work on my 87 elky. i had originally planned to paint it pearl white with blue ghost flames...but i decided to take a different approach. I am painting my elky Kandy Cobalt Blue...(UK-05 over BC-09) to give it a dark kandy blue with a slight tint of planet green. i am hoping for it to look great on the car. it will be completely painted this coming sunday and i will be posting pics...but for now please tell me your thoughts on my color decision. thanks, Branden

Hey Brandon...

It is what works for you. If you like it I love it, it is an Elky after all. Candy coats are really neat on cars and trucks. The CHevrolet SSR will or is suppose to be Candy Coated or the original Consept Car was.

They don't have to call it an El Camino but the SSR is an El Camino.

I like using paint that Dupont Calls Chromalusion http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/Warped/chromalusion.html Pretty wild paint far different than Pearls but it has pearls properties.

Branden, sounds like it's gonna be a real nice looking ride bro. Post some pics when you got it done! On another note, sorry Pete I think that Chevys new SSR is one ugly mutha, I don't think it's worthy of the name "El Camino", looks like an aborted S-10. What would be worthy is the Decoma or maybe even the Holden Ute with the right drivetrain and body pieces. Sure would like to see more pics of the Decoma! Anybody got some they could post? Remember where the Elkys original design came from? It was the Impala and then the Malibu. The Decomas' design has gotten its design in the same manner. Does history really repeat itself? Hope so!

i had originally planned to paint it pearl white with blue ghost flames...

That would have looked awesome. I love ghost flames.

I have to say that I think the SSR, while nice enough, is not truly worthy of the 'El Camino' name.

BTW - speaking of the Holden Ute, I understand from Holden (inquiring about what it would take to get a Holden over here in the States) that their V2 Monaro coupes will be imported to the US beginning in late '03 ('04 model year) as the Pontiac GTO. 18K/year. There are discussions on other vehicles, but nothing more at this time. The GTO will be the first import from Holden since General Motors - Holden's was established back in 1931.

With minor tweaks, a Ute SS would not make a bad El Camino. If the GTO does anything like well in the US market, I am planning on relentlessly lobbying GM to do just that.

well here is the most recent pic of my elky it is the base coat and it is un even. when we painted it the paint did not go on evenly 8O so it had a lot of light spots on it plus we didnt have the body 100% perfect. that is why there is bondo spots...we need to do those spots and then it will be painted so good luck to me and tell me what u think so far
