: new spin on an old topic/engine vs. gauges

I have a 229 in my 84 now. Moving up to 350 next spring. Have idiot light gauges now w/o tach, just bought MCSS pod with needle gauges w/ tach. I bought a tach filter. I'm thinking I need the oil pressure sending unit and a temp sending sensor. Since I am running the v6 for now, will the gauges work until spring (engine swap time)?
Since my speedo needle broke off and the speedo is running 10mph faster than actual I have to replace things now before the engine switch.

1) Is there a difference for v6 and v8 for the Oil and Temp sending units (assuming I have to replace both for needle gagues to work)?

2) New speedo is 115 vs. old one at 85, any other parts needed or Plug and Play?

3) Volt meter, is that just handled by the PC ribbon or is there addtional wiring needed?

I've never attemped anything like this but nothing ventured, nothing gained. ECC is my "mechanic on retainer" right now so any help or addtional input I haven't thought of would be very appreciated!!

I've read the previous posts (love that search feature!) and gotten some questions answered but haven't seen anything exactly like this.

I don't see what the gauges shouldn't work on the current engine.

You'll need "gauge" temp and oil pressure sensors. You can find them on the Autozone or Advanced sites.

When I swapped mine out, the temp sensor wasn't a problem, a simple swap. You'll have to empty some coolant...or I guess you could just wear some boots!

The oil pressure sensor took some "pumbing" because the gauge unit won't fit under the HEI. I found some small pipe to use to reroute it out of the way at a plumbing store. Also, the original unit had four wires to it and the new unit only had one blade. If you run into this wiring problem, PM me and I'll do the research again about what to do with the extra wires.

Good luck.
