Like many others...I'm trying to setup a decent stereo in my car. I dont want anything too crazy...Ij ust want good clean sound. I'm having trouble finding REASONABLY priced kick panels for in the elky....I hate crutchfield...

crutchfield kick panels (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VTyZhtqyiyB/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=182850&I=044K101114&o=p&a=1&cc=01&avf=Y&search=)

but are these my only option? I don't really know what to consider my interior color...I guess its more grey then blue. And im assuming this takes into account the fact that the computer is on the passenger side, and nothing is on the driver side.

I've searched here, and on google and cannot find something else. has anyone molded their own kick panel enclosures? I've got some carbon fiber left over from other projects... i could attempt to fix them up maybe.

let me know guys!

I've been thinking about the unfinished interior of my 81, and trying to get a feel for speaker placement. I wish there was a place for the small 3.5" speakers behind the seats in the rear window pillars like a 4th gen! I've got 4 way 6x9's in the doors of my 76 (bordering on Total Hack Job)but the 81 is too small to cram 6x9's in there. kick panels look like they would be a good spot for 6" speakers, so unless you're set on paying hundreds of dollars to have a tweeter pointing up at you, I would just mount the speakers in the panels somehow. There are lots of people here with really nice stereo systems, maybe someone will chime in.

yeah I am hoping someone will chime in who have done their own setup...

since i posted i've been looking into just modling my own from fiberglass...I could keep it under $50 for materials...but time could be more, granted i dont mind spending time on it, i'd rather spend that $100 on better speakers.

any other help is appriciated!!

I bought some real nice front speakers to replace the ones in my dash and I built an enclosure for the smuglers box to hold a 700W amp 2 10" subs and 2 midrange speakers and sounds real good and I only spent $300.00. I didn't buy the expensive high end stuff but still good and sounds great. I wasn't going for competition grade just good sound I can enjoy.

I bought theese from sound domain they are 20 bucks cheaper
the only thing bad thing about these kick panels is you have to bend your emergency brake, to make it fit. I just removed mine all together. Perfect fit though :-D

Dude, you gotta get the Q-logic kick panels, they are $99. They fit a 5" component speaker and come pre dyed (most colors). I have those along with aftermarket 3.5's and 6x9's with 2 10" subs. Sounds Awesome! Check out the installed pictures at my CarDomain website listed below. Let me know what you think!

How much did the kick panels fully loaded set you back?

i had to bend the e-brake pedal over about 2 inches or so. It bends real easy so don't worry about that being a problem. i bought the kick panels from a vendor on ebay $99 and I have never seen them that cheap anywhere. The component speakers can range anywhere from $150-$600 depending on how crazy you want to get. -Matt

It would not be difficult to make your own speaker pods. Where do you live? I had my buddy's shop fabricate some pods that are housing a 6" mid bass, 51/4" Mid range and a polk audio tweeters.

I have a pair of 6X9 behind my seat for rear fill. A pair of polk audio tweeter where the pillar trim intersects at the headliner and four 10" Subwoofers in two seperate boxes in the smugglers compartment that I keep reading about. Everything is powered by three (3) Rockford fosgate amplifiers and a kenwood head unit. The system sounds excellent. I am more than pleased with the sound quality and volume whenever I need it.

I have three other vehicles with systems in them. The El Camino set up gives at least two of my vehicles a good run for the money. My Elco is on page 25.

I will add audio pics soon. Stay tuned and good luck with your system.
