Hi,
I was wondering if the after market distributer caps were any better than the one that came with my 305. And also, should I spend any money on aftermarket spark plug wires? If so, are Jacobs and good? ThanX in advance.

I wouldn't go hog wild buying aftermarket stuff for an LG4 305. None of it will give that anemic engine any more power than what it was designed for. Stick with the Delco (or similar) stuff. If you keep it tuned up, it'll keep on running just fine. :-D

Jacobs are mainly for, or were, cars with headers that are really close to the plugs/wires. Generally Racers Street/Strip a good wire in its simplicity.
Accel makes a good Cap/Rotor and Wire set if your looking for something a bit closer to the top than standard wires. Delco has always been to much for the service life you get from them. I generally get what AutoZone or O'Reillys has a lifetime guarantee on. That way at least three sets are free. (I burnt up wires and caps like mad until I went with Accel.)
But as someone so "eloquently" :sarcasm: put it. The 305 you have, no forget that, if you are running a stock HEI with Stock module then any wires are alright to use, pretty much.
However ignition systems are some of the most over looked components when upgrading and tuning. A really well tuned HEI Dist and components make a world of difference in performance no matter stock engine or Race car. http://www.mrgasket.com/ (Accel)
Over time the vacuum advance modules can go bad or gets hard and doesn't work properly, springs get weak, excessive buildup of carbon dust and dirt all effect the performance of the distributor and its components. Not to mention the Drive gear can wear out giving a lot of slop in timing and sometime making it impossible to accurately set the timing.
Just the way I look at it. :D
