COURTESY LIGHT DELAY

CIRCUIT OPERATION

Entering The Car
When either front door is opened the interior lights come on. Closing the door energizes the Interior Lights Timer which begins a 30 second countdown. The interior lights stay lit for 30 seconds, or until the Ignition Switch is turned to Start or Run.

Leaving The Car
When the Ignition Switch is turned to Off, the Interior Lights Timer is energized, and begins a 15 second countdown. The interior lights stay lit for 15 seconds.

With the Ignition Switch in Run, if either door is opened the interior lights are lit as long as the Door Switch is closed.

TROUBLESHOOTING

COURTESY LIGHTS WON'T TURN ON WHEN IGNITION IS SWITCHED OFF
- Check for voltage at Interior Light Timer in circuit 40 (ORN wire).

- Turn Ignition Switch off and look for interruption of voltage at timer input in circuit 39 (PNK/BLK wire).

- Connect a wire from the timer ground terminal in circuit 150 (BLK wire) to ground, and observe the Courtesy Lights.

- Replace the Interior Light Timer.

I have a different problem with my interior lights on my '84 Conquista. The buttons are on the pillars, but the only way the underdash and dome light work is by the dimmer switch. It's kinda nice as you can work on the car with the doors open and not have the lights on, but I miss having the lights on when I open the door at night... Anyone got any ideas??

You da man Ernie...Where do you keep coming up with the details like that! Care to share? Got'em on CD or something ? Or, are you like hardwired in to your CPU?

I am sharing. :-D

I've owned G-body El Caminos since 1984. I've got 95% of the 5th gen El Camino Data Books (not sales brochures) and I've got all of the Repair Manuals and Electrical Diagnostics for the G-bodys. Plus, I've got a scanner.

Sounds like the door ground switch isn't working. The white wire gets tied to ground through the door switch and completes the circuit for the courtesy lights.
