I'm a new member with a 5th generation plane jane that has a 4.3 V-6. It's really in pretty good shape. Since I have never read anything about pumping up the V-6, I have to assume it probably not very benificial. I'm not looking to build a Monster Machine, just generate some good smooth power and not have to deal with the Smog Nazi's. I found a great buy on a 5.3 V-8 including trans, wiring harness, and computer removed from a 2001 Silverado. (Haven't bought it yet) Do any of you have experience with this motor swap? I've owned a Silverado 4X4 with this power plant combination, I believe the perfomance I'm looking for will there. I'm just trying to pick your brains on how difficult this conversion will be.

The motor is the same as the LS1.

1. You would have to modify the oil pan

2. Have custom motor mount plates made (not that hard flat stock).

3. Either have the wire harness reworked for things that would be missing Vehical Anti-Theft System (VATS), or have the ECM reprogrammed.

4. Depending on the tranny you currently have you might need a new tranny mount and driveshaft (or have yours cut down).

5. Is the V6 fuel injected? If not a new gas tank with baffles (to do it right) a new sending unit, electric fuel pump and possibly a return line ran.

Some of the things off the top of my head.

My 86 Camino with the 4.3 is TBI so the fuel tank should work, correct?

I assume the motor mounts shown in some the forum posts moved foward in the engine bay for the 350 installs are what your refering too.

The present tranny is a 200, new mount, right?

Is there a post explaining the ECM reprogramming or harness modification?

Bye the way, Thanks for the info!

The fuel system will be OK.

No, you will need V8 mounts and then a plate to connect to the new mounts to the Motor. The LS series of motors has the mount in a different location then the old style small blocks.

Yes

Not that I want to direct anyone away from here but you might want to go to www.ls1tech.com look about halfway down and there is a Hybrid section. Start doing some searches there and you can find out about the oilpan, mounts and harness info. People there have put the LS series motors in all kinds of things. You can spend a few days with searching for info in the older posts.
