I live near Kittanning, northeast of Pittsburgh. My El Camino runs several days weekly, doing light duty hauling while the roads are clean. My sphere of interest runs from Erie/Pittsburgh/Altoona/State College, with an annual pilgrimage to Hershey.

I live in Gilbertsville. It's 45 minutes southeast of Reading and 60 minutes northeast of Philadelphia. Pottstown is the closest 'on the map' town to me. I take community college classes down the street from the Eastwood Company (http://www.eastwoodco.com/) . Pottstown has a classic car club (http://www.pottstownclassics.com/) that has shows during the warm months. The main street gets closed down in Pottstown and people park their classic cars up and down the street. I live 20 minutes from Macungie which has two major car shows each year - Das Awkscht Fest (http://www.awkscht.com/) and Wheels of Time (http://www.wheelsoftime.org/). 8 minutes away is Boyertown which has a museum of historic cars (http://www.boyertownmuseum.org/) and a car show each year - Duryea Days (http://www.boyertownmuseum.org/01mai.htm#dd2004)

Altoona, PA. It's between Pittburgh and Harrisburg. State College and Beaver stadium is only 45 min. away.
Altoona has a ton of great cars in town. Street Rods are big as this was a railroad town and there is a lot of skilled mechanics, metal workers....
Some really fine muscle cars can be seen cruising the Boulevard on the weekends in summer. Seems everyne you talk to has or knows someone with something rare in the garage. A cool place to live and enjoy cars.

Hey grew up in Warren, Pa. livin in Syracuse NY now but the elky is still in warren. (Grrr. that is what is driving me nuts the most) hopefully I'll be down to get it running again in the next few weeks but until then I'm stuck wishing I could work on my ride!

File 5 - Hey, I know Warren. Spent a lot of time up there back in the mid-60s. Good memories. Had a girlfriend up there. Also had an aunt, uncle and cousins there. (I am down in Harrisburg area). I remember getting pulled over by a Warren cop in my '52 Chevy in 1963 for making an illegal left turn but he let me go since I was from "out of state". I guess he only looked at the front of the car and saw a Yukon Territory plate I had there (picked that up on the AlCan Highway 2 years earlier) and he did not take any notice of my real PA plate on the rear. Sometimes stupidity pays!

And for all you Central PA Elkys - the Blue Moon Cruisers cruises at the Soda Jerk in Hummelstown start up on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 PM. We had a great turn out last Fall. See you there - if it doesn't snow!

If you have not already read some of the older posts check out the Blue Moon Cruiser summer schedule and come on out some Saturday. We just had a cruise on the 7th (which I missed) so no idea if we had a good Elky turnout or not. If not, then the next time.

I saw that post about the Blue Moon Cruiser cruise. The el Camino is in no shape to be cruise'n right now.

I'm kinda new to this Elky thing but not to fixin up old cars. My first car was a 53 Ford tk and I loved that old thing. I just bought this 81 as a project for my son and I so he can learn how to work on cars. He'll turn 15 in July so we have a year and a half to work on it.

Can you point me to a junk yard in the area that still has stuff for the old ones.

Ive been a member here for over a year, but never scrolled down far enough to see the regional sections. I'm in the South suburbs of Pittsburgh, Upper Saint Clair to be exact.
I'm in the sales department of Colussy Chevrolet in Bridgeville, southwest of Pgh. As the host dealer for the Steeltown Corvette club, we sponsor an annual All-Chevy show on a late July Sunday. Wouldn't mind a few Pittsburgh area Caminos to keep my '87 Conquista from getting lonely.

Pittsburgh's best drag strip (I was there on opening day) "Those where the days my friend we thought they'd never end.... BUT they DID" :sad2:

bgblockelcamino.... look forward to meeting you and seeing that "El C beast" of yours. :driving: I assume you go to Pittsburgh Raceway Park??? We also go to Quaker City, Thompson & Summit Raceway in Norwalk. (just as spectators for now... our El C has a long way to go - it's streetable but not drag strip-ready)

Gina & I are already talking about what we can do for all nearby El C owners to meet someday soon..... that is if WINTER ever gets outta here!!!!

I AM SOOOOOOO READY for Spring this year. I have been away from this forum for quite a awhile. Started posting again about 3 weeks ago. My wife (gina) is also a big hot rod/drag race fan and she is also looking to be more active with cruises, drags etc.

I DID NOT know about this section of the website until another member told me to check district 3 forum....... so here I am. Pleasantly surprised to find your "BUMPS" here!!!!!

From the posts we have had so far looks like we are off to a good start & will be able to get some EL CAMINO Owners together some time soon.

CARLISLE would be nice to attend even though family issues would probably prevent us from being there the WHOLE WEEKEND like we usually do. There are so many great shows & cruises in the area that we can also plan to meet at some of them. Possibly regularly. BillyJack mentioned meeting at COLUSSY CHEVROLET for the Chevy show sponsored by the Corvette club...... Starlight Cruise in Wexford on Friday night is a great show and also the biggest. Show day (saturday) at the VINTAGE GRAND PRIX is a fun day..... Good Guys in Columbus,OH....... Blue suede cruise weekend at SummitRaceway Park...... Nostalgia Day at Pittsburgh Raceway Park...... Sunday evening cruise at Caste Village Shopping Center...... just for starters off the top of my head. We can set up some where break to meet soon as the weather breaks that will hopefully be convenient for all.

Yes. We have been to Canfield many times. Usually hit all three swap meets they have each year. Especially the first on of the year. Parts-A-Rama held in Butler, PA each June is as big & sometimes BIGGER than the Canfield Swap meets. We love swap meets.

Caste Village is a local cruise held every Sunday. Usually around 200 cars or so.

Same with the Friday night Cruise at Mineral Beach in Finleyville, PA every week. Mineral Beach is really a great place for a cruise. The parking area was developed specifically for cruise nights. Much like Quaker Steak & Lube in Sharon, PA. On the grounds there is an indoor restaurant with home cooked food, plus outdoor grilling of hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.... amber refreshment...and a nite club for other kinds of refreshment. We go there often, eat dinner at the Beach House Restaurant and then walk across the parking to the cars.

But not doubt the biggest cruise and the one that would definitely be worth the ride to Pittsburgh is the StarLight Cruise in Wexford. The cruise is held on Friday starting at 5:30pm. The place gets so packed that people start showing up hours ahead of time. There is no other show that comes close to StarLight. Over 2000 yes.... 2000+ cars can show up on a cruise night. The first cruise of the season is on May 27th. Their full schedule of events has yet to be posted. Check out their website & get on their mailing-list @: http://www.starlitecarcruise.com/

lol well hauling my car to brandenton next week for NMCA season opener so there iwll be about 7-800 in gas for 4 days lol. i work in my backyard i have a shop behind my house i work out of so gas money i spend is typically for fun anyways.

and i still drive it a bit still put about 4k on it last year with the 513 gears but i run a tall tire and overdirve so 70mph is only 2500-2800 better than my old big block with 3spd. fuel injexction is badass when done right.

even with a full cage in my car i still use it. in fact i like it better now. i had to take my mother bottle for nitrous refill station back. so i strapped it to cage and went to exchange th e bottle. not too amused lol. with slicks on it i wen tto loading dock to get a transmission for a customer's car loaded into back of it lol. so i do drive it a bit local.

another event we did last year was a pizza power tour. 8 pizza places in one day. we started squirrel hill to oakland to east mckeesport then mckees rocks to north hills so yes drove car all day.

I like it MUCH better too ...... I haven't even seen it yet and "I LOVE it :inlove:"

Our El Camino is like a "rat rod" compared to ALL of the Pittsburgh area EL C's I have seen so far.

For now our in faded black primer with "some rust" thrown in for some contrasting color. Interior is "gutted" with two distressed SS Monty bucket seats.

Under the hood is a different story..... there is a 358ci roller cammed 4 bolt main SBC with a 5 speed manual with all the good stuff hooked to it.... CenterForce Clutch, blowproof bellhousing and of course a Hurst Shifter.

Still have LOTS to do and enough plans to keep me busy for a Loooooong time.

Now if I could just figure out how to use that new Miller MIG welder I could......... :nanawrench:

Welcome to our "busy little chat" going on here in District #3.

Too bad you do not live in MT. Lebanon which is only 4 blocks from where I live..... Instead of Lebanon which is about 4 hours.

One good thing for you is that you are not far from Carlisle where the best car show & swap meets take place every Summer.

Maybe we'll see you there for the "All Chevy Weekend" when many members of the ECC bring their cars there and meet with other EL C owners.

Good morning to ALL!!! Just look past the freezing rain, slush & snow that is already here. Hopefully this Winter weather will be over soon. Possibly turning the clocks "back" on Sunday will speed up our much awaited "Spring weather".

This morning I started a NEW THREAD ..... (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/showthread.php?p=293192#post293192) calling out to all Pittsburgh and Western PA EL C'ers. Hopefully this new thread will draw the attention of more local Elky owners.

Plus it will eliminate us from having to "page thru" all of the "older posts" on the "pa location?" thread to see what is currently going on here in the Pittsburgh/Western PA area of Region #3.

Thanks to ALL of you :You_Rock: that have connected with each other so far. Gina & I look forward to working with you to make 2011 a really FUN "EL CAMINO SUMMER".
