Hi, I have a stock el camino, with the stock am/fm cassette with the two 3 1/5" dash speakers........I am looking at replacing the speakers and putting in a cd player/deck....also some 6 by 9's and a 10"woofer with 400w amp........so was the recommendation from a shop.....since I am sure many of you have upgraded from stock, I would like to know of any suggestions....

Oh and the other thing I dont want to spend to much on it....the deck about 100.00 and keep it less then 600.00?????thanks.

I did that exact thing.
2 3 way 6x9
and 1 sub
and a 400 watt amp.
It's pretty loud/sounds good and I think I spent like ~$400
I did it all at walmart too. (some may cringe but it worked great for me.)

Found the links to what I bought. I even got the 3 boxes for like $60. I couldn't even build them for that.

:) great thanks, just came back from best buy, and looked at some speakers, boxes, decks and cables.......all the stuff I needed for about 500.00.................just looking, cause the boxes were like 60.00 for one for the sub and 40 for the 6 by 9's........cables were 75 for the kit...and then you had the install.......gets expen$ive........trying to cut it down, like in the 400.00 range or cheaper.........but not to cheap that it sounds like it too......any other suggestions would be great..........

:-) ok, so this is what I was thinking.....replace the dash speakers with some 3", then put the 6 by 9's in a box and mount them one next to the spare and one on the other side, then the amp and sub behind the driver next to the spare, all out of site.......and of course a new deck.......anything wrong with that??? and or will it sound good???? just dont want anything showing

make sure that you measure right!
My 10" and box won't fit with the spair hanging in the back.

Also the wiring kits don't include the wire you need to connect the speakers nor do they usually include all the electrical wires.

BTW- I got mine under 400, what's wrong with that. Mine blows my friend's sound shop setup out of the water and it cost 1/3 the price.

I was just woundering if anyone got a sub in behind the seat in a fith gen. with or without 6 by 9s leaving the spare tire were it is? If so how big of a sub and how?

how much room do you have from the driver side of the bed wall and the tire?
It should be like 10" that means you could hang a 8 (maybe) and have enough room. My ten went over about 2-3 inches.

I installed a Delco digital deck with 5band equalizer (no CD) out of a 95 Trans Am ($49 bucks+ shipping) using an 86 faceplate from a Monte Carlo...looks factory. You could find one with a CD player and cassette thats similar...I have one in my Cadillac (no equalizer though).

You might want too start shopping Ebay for a amp, and maybe the Headunit. You can get "Cheap" systems, but they don't sound very good in my honest opinion. Also cheaper speakers don't last very long if you like it loud. I buy what I can as I can. I spent over $600.00 on my headunit alone. I'm still building my stereo system at the momment.
