has anyone found replacement in the dash speakers for a 72. oem or something a lot better. 4x6 with a square oddly mounted coil. it does not look like large aftermarket magnets will fit these holes. i'm a newby just starting my restoration. and need a ss hood also .if you've got a place with cheap parts let me know. thanks GB

Single speaker in the center or do you have the stereo dash pad with one speaker on each side?

Replacement speakers are available from some of our sponsors such as OPGI. I don't know about sound quality or fit but they do have them.

Fyi, if you have the two dash speakers, Radio Shack (who has gotten out of the car audio biz) had some that will work. Maybe not the best for any audiophil but do fit and work. You might have to get them to do a store 'search' for any that are left. They've been discontinued and reduced. the 30 watt ones #40-1419 went for something like $9.99 and the lesser power ones went for $2.99 (I can't find the box) and don't have a stock # for them.

Measure the depth, diameter, and also the flange (height of rim of speaker, should be around 1/4" or more, you need to know this measurement also so that the speaker grill will clear)...go to Crutchfield and see if you can match the size...they have a chart on what will fit in what cars, but I don't think it goes as far back as 72. www.crutchfield.com

I got a pair of little coax jobbies at Wally-World myself. Then fabricated up a little mounting box and reused the "bracket" off of the original speaker.

Have not turned them on yet so I cannot tell you how they sound. But it should work. That is along with the 6x9s that are going to be in the back wall when I can get to *that* part of the project.

new kick panels w/ speaker or without can be found on soundmove.com i ordered mine on friday. will let u know how they workout. does anyone know if the kickpanels from a 72 chevelle are interchangeable with the el camino"s
