Hi,
I'm the new guy here I guess so hopefully I won't come off like a total idiot.
I have been out of hotrodding for about eighteen years, and now I've been bitten by the bug again. I realize there has been some major changes out there during this time and I have not kept up with them.
I have just completed a 350 engine, bored .030 over, moderate crank and cam, heads ported and polished, points and condenser style dist., dual Holley's on a Wieand Tunnel Ram backed with a Turbo 350.
I am going out this week to look at a 1985 El Camino that I would like to put my motor in. Anything I need to know or that I should be looking for?
Thanks for any and all your advice and suggestions.

I've been out of it a whole lot longer than you! And I am a total idiot...that's why I do the things I do to my Elky! Anyway, make sure you check the frame real good for rust...especially behind the rear axle...they're prone to rust back there badly. Also check for rust in the bed and both around the front and back glass. If there's little or no rust and the body is straight...go for it! Anything else can probably be repaired or replaced. Oh, I'd get rid of that distibutor with the points though. :P

Welcome to ECC/NECOA!

As Mike said, look for rust. Look at the floor pans, rear frame rails, body mounts. Also check your local emissions requirements in your state to see if the Elky will pass with your new combo.

"points and condenser", what are those? Welcome back but that ram manifold won't fit under the hood...please don't tell me you are going to cut a hole in the hood!

Nothin' wrong with a good points setup.. :P I still run mine,, I think I'm the only guy in my car club with a small block Chev who still knows how to set points (buncha HEI sellouts) :D. I can do it with my eyes closed. I have a Pertronix electronic setup so I can keep the small cap dist points look, one of these days I might get around to installing it.. :-(

And of course, welcome Pilsung! Any reason why you specifically chose 1985 as the year you wanted? There are plenty of years that are exactly the same or very close ('78 style single headlights) to that same style.
