1978owner I tried to do my best to decode your vin. I used al li had here at the PD and this is what i got and i hope it helps.

(1)-GM line number=Chevy
(w)-?
(8)-?
(0)-?
(u)-Engine Code, couldnt find exact didnt know what motor you have
(8)-Last digit of year model
(k)-Assembly Plant, not exactly sure but i think it is Kentucky
(530710)-Sequential Production Number

Ok i figured it out hehe after i read farther on this topic sorry for posting this guess i should have read farther. Well the car from what the vin says came with a 305 but i found a site with just the differnt numbers for small blocks, and i went out and got my engine numbers and some 1 in the 27 years the car has been around droped a 350 in the car so that makes me a little happer to find out its not a 305 hehe. well thanks again for your help lostagain004.
