I'm down here in denver and have a 67. It's in pieces but it is an elky. Just put a 396 in it a couple of weeks ago so hopefully it will be on the road by mid june if I get of my butt and get to work on it. Like to hear from anyone around here, I do'nt think there are many of us.

Hello out there-

I'm a new member in Englewood, Colorado. I have a '60 Camino that I'm the 2nd owner and have had for 28 years. I'm looking for a club or group of owners that we can get together with occasionally for a run, show or whatever. Get back with me and let's get together.

Thanks,

Hey!

Drove out here from the Midwest two months ago in the ElCam. Had been working about the last two years to get it waterproof, seatbelted, floorboarded, carpeted and trimmed, radioed. Also had some work done, new cam and so forth. It has made daily driver status just in time for the move.

Anyway, I have seen seven El Caminos around town and the next town over. Two 3rd Gens, two 4th gens (!), and three 5 gens. Plus this Ranchero that should probably just be shot. So there are definetly owners in these parts! Was glad to see the cars. There are also a lot of AMC Eagles here.

I'm alive and wrenching in Arvada, Colo. and have my '68 el camino project happily taking up space in my 2-car garage. I'm working on it every chance I get, it's still pretty far off of bieng a driver, but I hope to be motoring in it by the end of summer 2005. I'm not moving anytime soon and wouldn't mind getting together with other project owners...and just for the record.... NO my elky is NOT for sale! 8)

Just recently joined ECC. I've been reading as much as possible about the generation gaps and am looking for my first El Camino. Driven almost a dozen of them and have determined that the 305ci, is just plain anemic!
I would like to know the real world gas mileage for a stock EC, with a 305.
If I can expect above 15mpg in town, then I'm sold. Otherwise, I would be ahead to look at a 350 with mods.
Am I looking at real numbers, or am I just wishing the old GM powerplants could compete with the rice burners?

I'll be taking one of my 1971 GMC Sprints over to the BIG Goodguys car show & rod festival on June 2,3,4, 2006. Sould be about 2,000 vehicles there, all 1972 and older vintage. So this might be a good "get together" spot for owners of older El Caminos in this area. The show will be held at the new Larimer County Colorado fairgrounds, near Interstate 25 & highway 34.

Thanks for the heads-up, Dan! Sounds like a great show. I'm a little geographically challenged, but that would be near Loveland, right?

Any chance you'll be bringing your SP454?

That is correct. Half way between Loveland and Greeley. North of Denver. South of Cheyenne.

That is a distinct possibility 8-)

Just found this place.. after owning my 79 since 93.
The car is about 90% finished, its been a street/race car but will likely start seeing more use for fun, but will always have a bit of race time in it.

We're getting our 82 Conquista ready for cruizing this summer and it sounds like there are some great shows to attend. There's a show and shine in Bozeman over the summer, I find out the date and post it.

I heard about an El Camino event in Bakersfield CA over the summer. Any one up for a group road trip?

Check out our project

Also I have a hood and bumpers available for free!! (you pick up) and a running 305 (complete) for cheap!!

Greets,

New to ownership of a 70 El Camino that was my fathers, and his fathers before that who purchased it new. I drove it from the Midwest a couple of days ago and it ran the passes on I-70 pretty darn good considering that I'm sure it needs to be adjusted for 8000 ft.

If anyone's ever in the Vail area and wants to stand around in a parking lot and trade lies let me know.

:driving: we get a good car show every summer up in polson, mt. right on flathead lake, takes up the entire main street of town and for a block or so over either side. most places here have their version of "hot summer nights", with cruise night and a big [for montana] show all weekend. look forward to all the summer events every year, even with the price of gas :P

I get up to Vail off and on for work. But never with the Elky. Was just in Georgetown on 9/6 for a car show that is put on by he all girl car club my girlfriend belongs to. There wasn't any El Caminos there. To bad I didn't see your post earlier, I would have let you know and you could have brought yours down. Besides my gf's Caballero and her El Camino there is also another member of her club who has a 70 Elky...it might be a 69, I can never remember.
If you ever bring yours down the hill shoot me a PM and we can meet at a cruise or show or something. Between the Rocky Mountain Chevelle Club that the gf and I belong to and the Colorado Chassis Lassies...the all girl club the gf belongs to we are usually at some kind of car show most weekends during the summer.

I knew about the ice racing on the lake though. I know that there are a few things in Glenwood Springs on occasion too. I found the web site for the RMCC and will watch for meets and such but I don't think that I'll be going too far with the El Camino this (summer) season. I have to get the carb, tires and some other things sorted. The carb will be the biggie, I'm new to non-fuel injection vehicles and carbs are sorta "magic" to me. :eh:

Georgetown doesn't have a club. But the club my girlfriend belongs to has there annual show there the second week of September every year. But rumor has it this may be the last show there. From what the gf is saying the town is really hard to work with. Since it's a girl only car club I'm only allowed to participate in the show and a few other things. The meetings and such are strickly off limets.
The RMCC has sort of disbanded as club due to lack of participation. We still get togeather as a group but there is no longer anymore dues or by-laws or anyhing like that. We sort get togeather once a year and lay out what we want to do for the year and then it's psted on the site. But most monthly activities tend to change. But if you are interested email the guy listed and he will put you on the email list or just PM me and I will let you know where we are going to be that month. This month we are meeting to do the Colfax Cruise which is a pretty big deal here in Denver. If you're not parked by noon you can pretty much forget finding a spot. The actual cruise starts around 3:00 I think.
We put on a Chevelle and El Camino only show once a year and that's the only reason we even keep the club going. But it's always the same 8-10 people that do all the work.
Sorry to be so long winded.

Jade

I can understand your position in your gf's club, you're just there to lift things.. :-P

And about the RMCC, I think I can relate to that too. There are just so many things to do here in the Rockies. I certainly can't afford any more hobbies, there are only so many hours in the day, and sometimes, life just gets in the way. But on the other side of it, it's nice to have a lot of choices when the urge is there.....

Hi My good friend Roy bought the 73 Elcamino in 1998. It was a full mess, he replaced 350 w/ 327 bored and blueprinted, weber 4 bbl edelbrock carb, 3 speed turbo trans w/ shift kit. new driveshaft and centerline mag wheels, side pipes, tach, 15" rear wheels. He raced the car at Bandemere and hotrodded around. His son has owned it for the last 10 years (he did nothing but put in gas, fluids) and let it fall into neglect. I bought it for a bro deal of $1500. I am doing a full mechanical restoration before paint etc. Nothing authentic or top of the line, I want everything to work and work dependably.

I'm a little south of your region (AZ) but I'm curious about your statement...

What are they laughing about. What do they drive? Do they drive?

El Caminos are the kind of vehicles you tinker with, enjoy, build, rebuild, screw up, fix up, and still get a lot of pleasure out of long after the Jettas and Camry's are rusting in the scrap yard.

Ask them what they think a Lexus will be worth in 20 years. Bet it won't be much and you won't be able to afford to fix it, not that anyone would want to...

Keep the faith!

Do you plan on coming down for one or more of the Golden Super Cruises. First Saturday of the month May - September. I'm usually there. But if the weather is nice it goes year round.
If your still interested I can send you the Chevelle and El Camino clubs schedule once I get it typed up, so you could come out and at least meet up with me and a cople other Elky owners. The entire year is pretty much set with the exception of April and May. We know what we are doing just not which month.
