I'm no audiophile so I need to pick some brains here. I need to replace the stock radio in the 86 with a CD/Casette/AM/FM. I don't need anything too fancy, just a reasonably priced unit that sounds good and is reliable. Actually most of the time I don't even have the radio on.
I was thinking of this Jensen CM9521.

Is this a decent unit? Any othher suggestions? Of course I'll be changing the stock speakers and possibly speakers in the kick panels also.

It certainly looks good and the controls seem easy to use, I hate radios with buttons so small that my stubby fingers can't push just button, I end up pushing 2 or 3 buttons. How much watts?, I think you need at least 200 for good clean sound at moderate/high volumns.

Hey man I am an audiophile have been for years. The new jensen products are alot better than those of years past. The havent had too many probs with the new stuff they also have pretty good lcd products for the buck. You can go to walmart and listen to their products but I wouldnt buy the stereos at walmart Look the same but the model number are usually one number off they are a lower product line of audio products. We would get people trying to bring back product to our shop the looked the same and we ran the model numbers and they were walmart products. It all depends on how much money you want to spend and what u like to listen too. I like alpine, pioneer, clarion, and kenwood. I havent had too many probs with them. I got alpine in my elky now .

Jensen units are not the best on the market, but for the price and what you are looking for it should be fine. Anything aftermarket is better than stock by far! Jensen has improved their quality over the past years, so if it fits your budget I say go for it! Unless you plan on doing a major stereo sytem in the future. Good luck! -Matt

Leo, do you know that the jensen deck you are lookin at is not a standard (DIN) size? it is the larger delco size that chevy uses in their newer cars. Our cars came stock with knob decks that can be converted to accept standard DIN decks. i think this larger deck will be harder to install cleanly because of space and asthetics, although it can be done. if you want to have tape and cd i would go with a DIN sized tape deck with a cd changer. you will have to mount the changer in another location like behind the seats but its not too hard.you can probably get a decent set for the same price as that jensen deck
jus my opinion :D

The space is actually bout a din .5 you can get a cd player and a thin crossover/eq in that space thus making it a din and a 1/2 but anything more than that is a no go without taking the ac controls out..
