My son (Electrodynamic) and I purchased back my old 69 from my best friend in Ky. last week. He let it sit in his back yard for the last 6 years or so, rotting away and providing a great haven for all kinds of critters. I was a real depressing thing to see it get loaded off of the transporter in that kind of shape. Anyway, our first priority was to get it running, so we had the carb rebuilt, siphoned the old gas out, replaced the fuel pump, changed belts, and replaced as much old rubber tubing as possible. It now fires up and purrs like a leopard(no kitten here). The 396 is the original engine and was rebuilt 3000 miles ago. The brakes were next, so we just replaced all the lines with a stainless kit from www.inlinetube.com which is a great high quality kit. New rotors and calipers were installed up front, and now I have to replace the bad wheel cylinders in the rear(bleeders are rusted beyond hope). The wheels were sandblasted, painted(stencil kit was a waste of money), and new 235/60/14 BFG T/A radials were put on. After we finish the brakes, it will be on to the interior(we got new plush carpet) which will be completely covered with sound deadening material for the upcoming killer stereo(with the tighest sounding bass speaker, the Magnum D2, which he designed and sells). www.stereointegrity.com Then we will have to strip all the 12 coats of lacquer off the exterior and repaint the car. Any suggestions on which is the preferred type of paint would be appreciated. My buddy who owned the Elky before loves PPG Concept.
The greatest part of the car is going to be the time I get to spend with my son rebuilding the car I promised to him years ago, but sold in a weak moment of greed. Hopefully I will get to spend many hours with the son of my dreams preparing the truck to be the company demo vehicle. We will be taking it to many car stereo shows in the future showing off the woofer and the Elky. He has told me that this is a very friendly forum and you guys have made great suggestions so far. I will frequent the forum weekly. Thanks
