A good street performance cam on a daily driver would be hydraulic with about a .450" lift and duration of no more than 220 @ .050". Of course in the end it really comes down to tradeoffs. Some people, like me, like the rumpity-rumpity idle and since I don't have to drive it daily I can put up with a more agressive cam and endure the low vacumn and poor low speed drivability. If you have to drive a car every day in traffic a wild cam can get tired real fast. Specifically the Comp Cam High Energy Cams work well with a 268 H grind about right for a daily driven vehicle with good heads, compression of 9.5 or more, peformance carb/intake and headers. Remember the bigger the engine the more cam you can use without adverse effects. Good luck.

thanks for the reply. i recently bought the 69 elco and the previous owner told me that it was a 327 with rebuilt 202 fulie heads. he also mentioned that he put a more aggressive cam in it, but I didn’t ask nor know to ask for the specs. After reading just a few posts off the forum I realize how critical it is. Is there easy way to find out what the specs are? What I gather from his mods. is that he was looking for performance in higher rpm rage. This car will soon be my daily driver and am more interested in the idle to 3500rpm range. Also what does the 2.02 mean or indicate?

Three ways that I know of: 1-get the cam spec card from the original owner 2-remove the timing cover, almost all cam manufacturers engrave the cam grind # on the end of the cam, then contact cam manufacturer for specs 3-use a degree wheel and a dial indicator and actually measure the specs. good luck.

Oh the 202 is 2.02", the size of the intake valve. Those "fuelie" heads were the cats meow in their day, nowadays with all of the excellent aftermarket and OEM heads they are just OK and not great.
