: SS stripes on an '85

I'm getting ready to re-paint my '85 SS. It is currently dark blue with light blue lower section. I am thinking about going with Silver with Med Grey lower section. I have a blue interior, and I believe that this was one of the choices available.

My question is with the stripe that seperates these two colors. I'm not crazy about it- it looks cheap. Anyone done any other type of transition treatment?

Also considering using the SS decals from a Choo Choo. Considering Silver as my body color, looking for a recommendation between White or Black for the decals.

Original Parts Group sells "El Camino SS" side decals in both black and silver colors. You won't be limited to just the black and white options. See page 89 of their 2002 catalog for details. Price in $19.95 per set. Good luck on your decision-making.

Anyone that shops evil-bay for elky parts should know "coppers", he's all over the place.

Thanks for the e-mail addy, nice to know he will deal direct!

Have you checked ECCs' links page to see if any of the retailers list them? Also you didn't state if your doing the repaint or if your having it done, if your having it done ask the shop owner to give you an estimate on painting them on. I prefer paint instead of tape.

I worked with Rick at ECparts.net for my SS graphics. Seems to me that he was under $100 for my custom gold color. I wanted to match the lower body color. They look great. I don't know who he went trhough, but I like not having black or white. It was well worth the extra. See the link:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for all of your posts, but I'm still searching for an answer. It just might be the vehicle I bought, and I haven't been able to see another one locally. There is a three color stripe seperating the lower body color from the upper body color. Was this something added as an aftermarket item, or was this part of the original scheme?

If this was not part of the original scheme, was there any transition between the colors? I have seen some with body side mouldings ( Choo Choo for one) but it doesn't look like I can get a complete set of those, and I'm not sure if I want that much chrome on the sides.

The three color stripe graphic was the original paint seperator for the 5th generation El Camino SS option.

Yes, but who has these? My 87 has three stripes as well, silver/red/black, and I have also been unable to locate them.

They are kinda' pricey, but Phoenix Graphix sells the "stripes" only. BTW, the Phoenix Graphix web page describes them as 1978-1982 El Camino SS, but the "stripes only", are also for the 1983-1987 SS paint seperator usage.
