Can anyone tell me if seat belts were an option on the 60 el camino? There are absolutely no indications that seat belts even existed on my bench seat.

For my safety and passengers, I would like to add some :). Could someone please give me some advice as to how to install?

Thanks

I'm an old guy (well not that old) and I don't think seat belts were an option in 60. As a matter of fact I don't think seatbelts even exsisted in 1960 unless you were running some type of race car. I'm surprised that some previous owner of your 1960 Elky hasn't installed them sometime over it's lifetime out of necessity (avoid a no seat belt ticket or pass an inspection). I would think you would be able to at least install a set of lap belts without to much difficulty. I wouldn't just drill some holes in the floor and run some bolts through though. You might want these things to really be able to work one day and not have the bolt pull through the sheetmetal. It would be better to weld maybe (4) 3"x3"x7/16" or thicker steel plates with a 5/8" hole tapped in them on the underside of the floorpan in the appropriate spots. Then get a set of GM lap belts (new or good used) to match your color of interior. Yeah your gonna have to pull your seat out and pull up the carpeting to do this, (maybe it's a good time to install that new carpeting you were thinking about anyway). But it's better to be safe then to eat a facefull of windshield sorry.

Your prob right about the seat belts. I'm beginning to research this effort. Hopefully someone here with a 60 can add some suggestions/advice.

:)
your probably going to use lap belts, since 3 or 5 point need a roll bar or cage. they did not come standard in 60.any good top shop can install them for you .mount to the frame, you may have to angle them , cost about $30.plus installation
