I have a recently found someone that has a 1970 454 SS El Camino. She said it will need to have the motor rebuilt, it has a blown rod not sure how much damage has been done to the block. I was wondering what the value of the car might be...I have not seen it but let's assume the body has normal rust/wear. Thanks for your help.

The '70 big block Super Sports were / are one of the more desirable 3rd gen El Camino's. If it is a true SS, and without any further description or details, I would think it would be very worthwhile. You can locate plenty of replacement parts for the 3rd gen's and rebuilding the original BB motor would make it even more valuable.
Are you looking for a dollar value or just whether it is a good Elky or not???

I am pretty sure it is a #'s matching car...She said she would take $3k for it..I gues I am looking to see if it is worh that much. I am not a big el camino but when she said 454 my eyes lit up with $$$$'s. 8O

Two words.
Buy it!
3K for what you describe is good, and depending on what it really looks like, it could be a very good price.

I just found out it is not the origianl motor.. :-( I misunderstood her, do you think it might be worth grabbing and finding a correct motor for it?

Depends on how badly it's rusted...but for 3K, if it's restorable it's probably worth it if it's a real SS. Just because the engine isn't original doesn't mean it's not the correct 454 for 1970, although that would be wishful thinking. You better decide soon though...because if I find it...it'll be mine all mine!

It turns out this is a 396 SS, with a 454 in it. The thing barely runs, her husband said it should drive home. I will be getting pics early this coming week and I will post them. Is this thing worth 3k provided the body is in decent shape?

Check the frame/chassis/steering section out end to end for damage, wear, rust, etc. Do a check on all body panels(get a good look underneath) for rust/repairs. Pull up the carpet if it still has it (and if you can) and check the floorpans/kickboards/firewall for rust. Look around the windows front and rear for rust also. After that then check motor, trans, brakes, and any other accessories. If your comfortable after that....write the check! :)
