Hi guys, I am now a proud owner of a 71 rust-bucket which I plan on workin on. This car came with a 6-banger and all no power assist, drum brakes. I plan on putting a 350 in it and would like to know a few things. I was told that the front suspension needs to be changed because the springs are too weak to hold up a 350? I also want to change the front over to disc, and read some confusing articles on this. Also would like to add a power assist to the brake system. Any idea's on what I would need to do to make this a good, safe car? I have also posted in the engine section on what I want to do with the power-plant.

While there is a difference in weight between the 6cyl and the smallblock and the factory did install differnt springs it is not enough to really have a great concern over. If you are looking for maximum handling I would change all the springs to a lower ride height and higher spring rate. On the discs go to a junkyard OEM setup or one of the many available kits. Good luck.
