Search (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=search) is your friend. This has been discussed before. Do a search for "tachometer" and you'll find many threads that discuss this.

My 87 came with gauges and no tachometer. When I installed a MCSS tachometer I found that the dash harness was already prewired for it. It should take about 1 1/2 hours for the install.

Be aware that there is a V6 tach and a V8 tach.

I recently purchased a tach for my car, and on the distrib cap there was a place that said tach, and I just pluged my wire in there. It works very good. But if there is another way to plug it up to the factory connections I would probably try to do that. I hate wires running everywhere.
