Can the front springs be removed from my '83 without removing the control arms. The compressor I have does not seen like it will compress the springs enough. It IS the internal one . Is there a certain type or brand of compressor that works? Thanks in advance!

Nope. Have to remove at least one of the arms. There's just not enough room to get them out otherwise. Even with having the lower arms loose it's still real fun getting the new springs in. :?

The control arm doesn't need to be removed, just undone from the spindle and allowed to swing down low enough out of the way for the spring to come out.

Is there a recommended type or brand of compressor? Thanks

Is there a recommended type or brand of compressor? ThanksI just put heavy duty front springs in WITHOUT using a compressor...but it WASN'T EASY!!! And i don't know that i'd "suggest" trying it. Had to use a GB hammer (and a lever) to position the bottom of the spring after putting a little tension on (supplied by jacking up the lower control arm). But BE CAREFUL if you try it!!!

Lowering springs don't need any help. They will just slid in.
